Will the Digital Switchover increase the ratings of Neighbours and Home and Away?

Although currently a substantial proportion of the UK population have access to Channel 5 already on Freeview, Freesat, Virgin Media, Sky TV and other providers, do you think when every single region within the UK loses analogue later this year it will increase the ratings of Neighbours and Home and Away?

When Neighbours was on the BBC everybody had access to it, when it moved to Channel 5 certain areas within the UK didn't have access to it at all.

So post switchover do you think ratings increase?

I wouldn't think so to be honest.

Most regions have already been switched and there's been no difference. I don't see how the last one will make any difference.

Doubt it, I used to watch both but have seen neither since they moved to C5 even though I could/can get it. The main reason I stopped was because they moved to different times slots & it would have messed with my "viewing schedule". I think if C5 had kept the same slots as they'd been shown on BBc/ITV they would have retained a lot of the viewers who left. Too late now though.

All the regions have switched now haven't they?

Will more watch Neighbours? Who knows. They may do.

How are the timeslots different to the BBC's?

I just find this attitude really bizarre to be honest. Surely if you love a show, you watch it no matter what channel it's on?

It is. It starts five minutes before it used to start on BBC1.

You should watch it. It is the best it has been in some years.

The only thing I don't like is the 'filmic look' which was introduced when it moved to Channel 5. It has the Casualty / Holby City look.

It is, although I do think people are more loyal to channels than they are to the shows that they show. I know I am. BBC1 is my favourite for sure.

Would EastEnders, Coronation Street and Emmerdale get the ratings that they currently get if they moved to Channel 5?

Did H & A do this as well? because I have actually seen a couple of episodes at my in-laws & didnt really like the look at all.

I disagree! The shows were always produced with that filmic look in Oz and I'd rather see a show the way it was intended to be seen. The filmic look also suits the generally slow pace of the shows.

Maybe so, its probably something you'd get used to, If Casualty & Holby do use the same style as mentioned then I can honestly say I dont notice it.

For me, I prefer the 'video look' for the soaps. Somehow they feel more 'real'. I said from the get-go that I didn't like the 'filmic look' on Neighbours. My position is unchanged and will remain unchanged. I would like the old 'video look' back.

I actually stopped watching Casualty and Holby City when they went 'filmic' (and more soapie, to be fair). I haven't watched them for years.
