On http://www.myechostar.com/Features.aspx#record is says that you have to use the mobile version not ipad version - which is still usable on the ipad. Elsewhere I've also read that the ipad app on ipad doesn't wrok but the iphone version on ipad does.

look into it but apparently the iPad version of the sling app is rubbish and you might as well use the iPhone version on the iPad (so you can use both devices without paying twice)
I've grumbled and complained and received a support note telling me (or to be accurate impolying) it's only the iphone version - but "someone" has been accessing my Echostar and it's been reset to Freesat Home and the app has been updated a couple of days ago and now the ipad app seems to be working. Haven't tried it away from base yet.
