She had a smash album "Jagged Little Pill" spanning hits like You Oughta Know, Ironic and You Learn. Since then, her albums/songs haven't been that good. What happened to her? Does she still make music? I only hear the 3 songs from the Jagged Little Pill album on the radio being remembered.

Didn't she release an album 4 years ago? I don't know if it was a total flop or if it just underperformed, but it definitely wasn't a success. I don't know if she's recording anything right now, but she's on 'The Voice' USA, one of the advisors in Adam Levine's team. That's all I know I definitely want her to come back, though.

She had a baby and got married back in 2010 so she has just been concentrating on being a mum. She is releasing an album this year. Rumoured for a June release.

Great news! I'm a big Alanis fan. Her later records weren't huge sellers but some of them have great stuff on them. Her last album Flavours of Entanglement was really good. She worked with Guy Sigsworth who is a great producer. She moved away from the rock stuff of her earlier albums into a more electronic and even some Middle Eastern influenced stuff. I hope she continues in that eclectic direction.

She's still been on the scene, not to the level of Jagged Little Pill, but I don't think it's possible for everyone who has hits that size to maintain it, the fact she's carried on at a decent level shows how good she is.

She performed on the X Factor USA final as a duet (like Michael Buble, Beyonce etc have done over here in the past) she had a similar role a couple of years back on Idol so she's still fairly widely exposed across America.

I have heard Crazy and Uninvited played on the radio as well as the hits OP mentions. Perhaps only those 3 are playlisted on stations you hear.

Her cover of Black Eyed Peas - My Humps, is one of my all time favourite covers.

Alanis was lumped together with the angry girls with guitars thing was popular in the 90's. But there is so much more than that to her as an artist. She is very eclectic in her taste. She probably would have had more success if she just stuck to the formula of angry vengeful rock songs or her debut record but she wanted to try different stuff

I love Alanis, she has been releasing music for years just no one seems to notice anymore!?

Her last album was fantastic and apparently she is releasing another either this year or early next year, I am happy with that!

Her 4th and 5th album didn't do that bad, though. Because, after reading the thread again, I think it's been implied that 'JLP' was a flash in the pan. 'Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie' and 'Under Rug Swept' were million sellers and their respective lead singles ('Thank U' and 'Hands Clean') were hits. Her 2 most recent albums flopped, but it wouldn't be that bad if she hadn't taken a long break after the 1st flop and an even longer break after the 2nd flop. I hope her upcoming album is a success

im not sure why the second album flopped so badly as thank you was beautiful. Maybe a seocnd single should have been released before its release and the album should have been shortlisted to 10 tracks only.

Her follow up albums may not of sold about 20/25 million copies like JLP but they have hardly flopped. People really do not understand a flop actually is. An album is a like a film, a film has to make it's budget at the box office for it to be deemed a financial success. The same goes for an album.

She was on the same label known as Maverick for decades, if she was apparently flopping, I am sure her label would of gotten rid of her.

Doesn't 'Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie' count as her 4th album? Because 'SFIJ' and its follow-up were the albums I referred to as 4th and 5th in my post...

You're absolutely right. The film example is the one I use most of the times too I do think 'So Called Chaos' and 'FOE' were flops, though. Not total chart disasters, but I think they were flops.

Flavors of Entaglement was her best recent release in a few years
The most recent of her albums I bought was So Called Chaos, which I think was the one before Flavors of Entaglement, and I think I must have got bored of her at that point because she didn't seem to have developed her style at all, it was all the same stuff that she'd been doing for years. So I didn't bother getting Flavors of Entanglement.

But I've now seen a few reviews/people saying that Flavors of Entanglement was actually one of her best albums and that it did actually mark a bit of a change in style, don't suppose anyone who has listened to it could comment further on this?

Might have to check it out after all.

Then how can you pose a question that requires knowledge of her actual later material, not just their commercial success?

Exactly. Too many people on here haven't a clue.

I think FoE is well worth getting. The songs trace the breakdown of her relationship and the start of her emotional recovery - touching on the anger, insecurity, hurt (and eventually hope) that go with the process. I particularly like Versions of Violence, Moratorium, Torch and Tapes, but there are plenty of other good tracks on there.

I should add that one of the best tracks isn't on the standard version of the CD, so get the deluxe version - Madness is a wonderful track. I'm surprised it isn't on the main album.
