Just CHERYL does'nt exactly have a ring to it.

The name is'nt exactly on the level of Madonna/Mariah/Rihanna/Ciara.

It's just such an ordinary name.

That didn't stop Louise. (Or Adele for that matter...)

I don't blame her. Although Cheryl Cole has a nice ring to it, she isn't with Ashley now and probably doesn't want to be associated with him. Now she's bringing a brand new album out it's probably the right time to drop it.

And Cheryl is an ordinary name but she's a big star in the UK and the only famous singer called Cheryl here so people will know who she is. Adele is quite ordinary but since she's become a huge star everyone knows who people mean when they refer to Adele.

Cheryl........? Quite dull really
There are reasons why the likes of Katy Perry are not known as "Katy" because it sounds too bland
Doesn't have the same ring as "Britney, Madonna", Mariah, Whitney, Adele" etc
She should stick to Cole. It never harmed Tina Turner.

Is it just a way to get publicity, I find Cheryl likes the attention she gets from the press

What, again?

She did it two years ago: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/showbiz/...h-surname.html

Apparently.

And then again in 2011: http://uk.omg.yahoo.com/news/cheryl-...101736442.html

Perhaps those "sources" will be right this time?

It doesn't really have the same ring to it as "Cher", "Britney", "Madonna", "Kylie", "Whitney". It's not really a name that would work on its own in music like the others do. You'd be left thinking "Cheryl? Cheryl Baker? Oh, Cheryl Cole."

She missed a trick. Should have called herself "Biffa" and then released a hardcore rap album.

I think you're missing the point. I never said there should be an alternative.

So what if it does? There is nothing wrong in living on a council estate.

She should have changed it back to Tweedy as soon as she decided to get divorced. People would have soon got used to it and it was before she went to America. I wonder why she didnt just change it back.

Just Cheryl alone is really bland for a popstar. Management should really think about this a little more, they could change her image at the same time, which could be a good thing, might lead to better music aswell. Not that i even give a damn but Cheryl alone idoesn't seem like a great move marketing wise.

It's not as if she's popular enough to be referred to by one name is it? People like Elton, Cliff, Kylie, Agnetha, Robbie fair enough whatever you think of them. At least they got well known enough to earn that right.

And as someone said, 'Cheryl' isn't really distinctive enough to work (although I have a cousin Cheryl!)

Cheryl Cole > Cheryl > Cheryl Tweedy

She really needs to keep it. I mean, people can unofficially call her just "Cheryl", like they do Kylie, but it looks stupid if on her artworks and stuff it just says "Cheryl".

The "Cole" makes a world of difference.

Rihanna and Britney shouldn't be mentioned in the same breathe as the others above.

I think she will be stupid to drop her last name, she's not that famous like Madonna or Kylie.

You can just say Kylie or Madonna and everybody knows who you mean.
