Can't play a DVD on my bluray player?
Hi, looking for some ideas please?
I have a blu-ray player, panasonic dmr-bs850, a couple of years old. Bought in UK. Standard dvds have always played fine with exception of a recently purchased copy of Transformers, Dark Side of the Moon (non blu ray version). Bought in UK region 2. I insert the DVD but the TV screen stays black doesn;t actually play at all. I took the DVD back to shop and changed as thought it was a problem with the disc but the new one is the same. The disc plays ok however on my PC. Any ideas why it won;t play? Many thanks |

Do the older DVDs which used to play still play? Have you checked if there is a firmware update for the player?

There are other people experiencing problems with this disc on various players. It appears to be something to do with the disc also having PC related material on it.
(Another strike for Google, Damn.) |

i would have thought it was more likely to do with the new copy protection they deployed on this disk.
you could check for a firmware update for your player. |

BD players need regular updates, it sounds like your Panasonic needs one - although normally it's not a problem for DVD's, only BD's.

will the Transformers disk play on your PC?
it's most likely the player.maybe it's programmed to reject Michael Bay films.

My very early Panasonic player BD30 lasted several years and even played Avatar that had issues on many other players . Until I got the original Alice In Wonderland on Bluray last year. It loaded but would not go further than the initial menu. So I downloaded an updated firmware which sorted the problem out. So I wouldn't say they need "regular" updates. |
