I'm thinking about whitening my teeth by brushing them with Milton (as it appears safer than Bleach), I've got no intention of swallowing the stuff but I was wondering if it is safe to do this or how dangerous it is???

any sharing of knowledge on this would be greatly appreciated.

Why on earth would you use Milton to whiten your teeth. Here is some info about Milton. It's not designed as a teeth whitening agent and nor is bleach.

I thought this was about a new comedy interview show on TV hosted by Milton Jones.

I was under the impression that people have previously used it to do false teeth?

That's rank. The smell alone makes me gag. Repurposing of chemical products is strongly unadvisable.

It's a sterilising agent so could be used on dentures but I doubt it would make them whiter.

You mentioned not swallowing it so where do the dentures come in?

Milton ?
You may as well use a dremel with a polishing pad on the end.

From the Milton website

What is Milton Sterilising Fluid made of?

Milton Fluid is made of an aqueous solution of sodium hypochlorite and 16.5% sodium chloride. The Milton Fluid that is available to buy is a strength of 2% sodium hypochlorite.
In other words it is bleach (dilute and with salt added)

I guess people DO realise, don't they, that there is a range of natural tooth colours, and not everyone has pearly white teeth? So you could (in theory, don't do it) soak your teeth in bleach until the cows come home, and you'd not get them white.

And if you DO happen to have naturally white teeth that have become stained with coffee, red wine, whatever, there are many safe products on the market that will remove the stains.

Can I just say, my dentist has just told me to clean my dentures with diluted Milton, so she is perfectly right in thinking some people use Milton.

But I assume :

A) You take them out of your mouth first

B) You rinse them before putting them back in.

Some people recommend a bit of baking soda mixed with water or lemon juice to remove surface stains, but beware of damaging the enamel.

The only thing that really works is paying out proper money for proper whitening via your dentist. I used Opalescence and it cost a fortune but my teeth look amazing.

How much of a fortune?

It would be nice to have whiter teeth before I lose them all.
