Where did Carly Rae Jepsen come out of nowhere from?
I didn't hear her song on the radio,
I didn't see it on any tv show, I didn't see it on youtube, Then all of a sudden its number 1? How did this happen? |

Honestly never heard of her until this thread. Just listened to Call Me Maybe and it sounds like fairly average pop. Really don't see why it's number 1.

Basically Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez made a video on Youtube of them and their friends dancing to the song, and now it's high in the charts all around the world.
It's a very catchy song, but that's the only reason it's in the charts. It would've just remained an obscure song which nobody knew otherwize. Carly Rae Jepsen got a record deal now though, so I bet she's happy.

She was actually a contestant on Canadian Idol. She didn't win. She released an album a few years ago. Now she is doing a second album but has rebranded herself.

The song has been garnering hype on the music blog scene and around the internet for a good few months now I think, and then of course once radio have picked it up it's been quickly released. I think the original release date here in the UK was the 20th but it got brought forwards by a good three weeks or so.
The song has been climbing the Billboard Top 100 over the last few months too & is currently at #10 I believe. It's also been #1 for the past few weeks over the pond in Ireland and was #1 in Canada earlier on in the year. So there's been quite a lot of coverage of it - and I have to say, a very catchy song. It's nice to see a good pop song at #1 and hopefully it can stay there for a few more weeks. Oh and I'd also like to say that it's been receiving quite a lot of coverage on music channels recently - the video has quite an amusing twist at the end, it's worth a watch. |
