iPhone App Compass
Hi all, hope someone can advise. On my iPhone there is a standard app which is a compass, fine. However it now asks me to calibrate it by moving the iPhone in a figure of eight but it still won't work. I can't delete it and reinstall
Is this a common fault with this app nd is there a way of fixing it |

What iPhone do you have?
I had the 3GS and the compass was terrible, it was always needing calibration, and even then it would have the wrong direction a lot of the time, the direction would jump about 150 dergres. I now have the iPhone 4S it is better, but still far from perfect, and when I am using it, it still make sure it is pointing me in the correct direction (as best as I can) |

I'm amazed anyone actually uses the compass for real. Can I ask (just being nosey) what practical use you make of it? Are you into orienteering or something.
I've only ever used the compass to determine which direction my garden faces (South West if you're interested). Personally, I'd love to see the compass deleted, for the single reason that having it installed means your iPhone is illegal to use in golf competitions so you cannot use the Golfshot gps app for working out distances to the hole. if the compass was removed I could use the iPhone in competitions and hopefully make some better scores. |

I’m curious now about the golf! LOL What can you do with the iPhone to improve your score in competitions?
But, if you could use the iPhone in a competition, there are numerous apps that allow you to know how far away from the hole/green you are (using gps) and so you can make a decision which club to use. |
