I've had an Orange contract for five years now.

This has been dropped from £36 p/m to £31 p/m and I feel that I am not using this.

Yes the Deezer and Sky sports have their use but as my football club Birmingham will never be on the TV whether we get promoted or not, I won't be interested,

On top of that, I rarely use the minutes.....my partner has a spare mobile with a Vodafone sim which has been signed up to the free weekend package and soon to be family as my sisters and mum are on that network.

My partner, his brother and my Dad are all on Orange and are therefore magic numbers so nothing gets eaten in this either.

The phone I have which is an Orange Stockholm does the job perfectly and I like Android and touch screen phones so it's ideal.

Basically....how do you get out of a contract? I am willing to pay it up once I have the money, and what PAYG tariff are recommended and offer the best extras?

How long do you have left to go on the contract?

If you're out of your minimum term then you will just need to give 30 days notice - either by ringing up to cancel, or requesting a PAC if you want to transfer your number.

As for PAYG tariff - it depends what you're using it for. You said you don't use many of the minutes so if you don't use the phone enough to make bundles worth the money then the Talk Mobile essentials tariff at 8p/min 4p/text 25p/day (for 25mb) is perhaps the most suitable.

If you want bundles then it really depends on how many texts/minutes/data etc. you want.

I do text a lot and use the internet for FB/Twitter and for music apps such as Spotify and Deezer.

I have about a year left! I did ring Orange and said I have £300 to pay off which I can clear off in a few months.

Talk Mobile Essentials looks tempting and I could make £15-20 a month last. Thank you for your advice

If you use a lot of texts & data then perhaps have a look at GiffGaff.

Might be worth sticking with your contract until the end though - you're paying the remaining line rental as the termination fee anyway so you wouldn't actually be saving money in the long run.

Probably giffgaff or TalkMobile - they are super cheap and pretty decent for the most part

You say you have a year left (12 months). Assuming you want to pay £15 sim-only, they need to give you that much as discount on your line rental to make it worth leaving early, I very doubt they will. (It's almost £200 discount they've need to be giving you).

As already mentioned (but repeating it to underline the point), stick with your contract until it expires instead of paying it off early. At the end of your contract (in 12 months time), ask Orange what's the best line rental price they can give for minutes/texts/data/add-ons you actually need, without a new handset. Compare the price at that time to the sim-only deals you can get from the likes of TalkMobile, Three, Virgin and Giffgaff and go for the cheapest one that most closely matches your needs.

You should ask Orange to review your Tariff as your not complaining about the Network so maybe best to stay with them if your finding them reliable and the coverage fine. Maybe stick with it till the end and see what they can offer as it's going to cost you the £300 to pay off plus what ever your new network costs you in that 12 month period.

Your Orange Stockholm may be locked to the network which may cost to get unlocked to use on other networks. (£20 usually)
