Galaxy SII mp3 player - how to use it?

I’ve just got a Galaxy S II from O2. How do I use it as an mp3 player? I connected the phone using usb, no problem. I copied a folder and its mp3 files into the usbstorage directory on the phone. I can play individual tracks by selecting them using the ‘my files’ app. But if I select the’music’ app the only music I see are the two Samsung supplied sample tracks. I’m used to an mp3 player where you just copy a folder into the device and it picks up the songs and puts them in its library list automatically. How do I get this phone’s music app to know the files are there to play?

Because you need to upload your music to the "Media" folder.

The phone also needs to perform a scan which it does once you disconnect the USB.

Many thanks. I cannot see a 'Media' folder on the phone, either when I look using 'my files' app or under Windows Explorer when I connect through USB. Do you know how I can get to see ths folder? I wish there was a decent manual that came with the phone.

when you connect your usb you should be able to navigate to the storage folders in Windows Explorer. media is there.

I have no difficulty in navigating under Windows Explorer, but there is no 'Media' folder that I can see. Nor can Windows find any folder of that name.

The two sample mp3 files supplied with the device are in folder /Samsung/Music/ but when I put other files in there too they were not picked up.

I have now created a folder called 'Media' in usbStorage and put mp3 files in it but they have not been picked up either after I disconnected the USB.

Strange, the phone should pick up your mp3 files after usb is disconnected.. does it say its scanning in the status bar?

You are using compatible mp3 files and not itunes etc?

cant really say much more. I just copy across to Media folder and it finds them. I do remember it no finding my songs when I put them in the Music folder.

I use Power Amp now - not the default player.

Yes it says it is scanning after the USB is disconnected and has done every time.

The mp3 files are good. I do not have or use itunes. I normally use a Creative Zen and they play with no problem.

There is no 'media' folder, but I have now tried putting the files back in the /Samsung/Music folder and they were picked up! The same is now true for two subdirectories, so the files are being picked up but don't know why it has started seing them. Next problem is getting them picked up from an SD card.

The Google Android manual makes no mention of 'Media' folder, or a 'Music' folder so I wonder if the phone is customised by the network supplier. Mine is from O2. Which supplied is yours from, or is it a non-contract SIM-free phone?

Thanks for your help.

Try creating a folder called 'Media' then a sub folder called 'Audio' and a sub folder under this called 'Music'. drag and drop your music into the folder 'Music' and when you disconnect the USB cable it should scan and find your audio files.....fingers crossed!!

Thanks I'll try that later and post the results.

I today connected using KEIS and told it to copy some music files to the device. It created a 'Media' folder and placed the mp3 files in it. I have now copied sub-folders into this 'Media' folder and the mp3 files are picked up.
