i would not advise anyone to have a blackberry. I used to have the torch but soon got fed up with it due to lack of apps etc they are just imo a boring phone with limited features not really meant for the consumer market.

There reliability is no where near as good as they used to be either as there seem to be a lot of faults on my friends blackberrys.

The blackberrys I have usee have been sluggish to say the least.

I liked the look of the desire z but it has been out a long time now so as to new models with a physical keyboard the cha cha is the only non blackberry I can think off.

My current phone is a Samsung Galaxy s2

Have been using BlackBerrys for a long time now - I've found them to be reliable (aside from one phone which was quickly replaced), excellent for email (probably why BB are STILL the pre-eminent business phone) and good battery life.

One thing they are NOT, however, is "designer-tech" gadgets, and probably won't appeal to the teen market due to lack of apps etc. They are not trendy, in other words.

But, if you want a reliable, powerful phone that handles email well, I would recommend Blackberry, based on my own experience.

Funny you say it wouldn't appeal to the teen market as most of the kids at my school have blackberry's which they use mainly for playing crap music on and BBMing each other in class! And those who don't have them want one so there must be an appeal!

The Motorola Pro + is a good blackberry alternative.

I do nor recommend a blackberry at all.

Only thing with the android is there is no "hang up" button, kind of useful in a phone you know.”

Glowbot go - Menu>Settings>Accessibility (tap cancel when prompted > tick "power button ends calls". You then have a button to end calls - sorry but I can't make it red.

I use a Blackberry at work. Rubbish. The OP should get Xperia Mini Pro - touch screen with full querty keyboard.

I thought blackberry were pulling out of the consumer market and focusing on business?

If so the only way to get one soon will be a business contract.

I have repeatedly told my friends and family not to buy Blackberrys, but they never listened to me. They are awful mobiles. Of my 10 closest friends/family members, 7 of them bought Blackberrys within the last year and each and every one of them has broken in some way or another - broken screens, faulty keyboards, faulty software, faulty aerial, dead-on-charge up etc.

Considering that RIM have now delayed [and cancelled some of] their new 2012 range of mobiles until the end of the year and have announced that they are leaving the casual market, to focus on business again, you'd be daft to buy a Blackberry now.

I have a blackberry and I am happy with it. It receives e-mail very well and I can call and text.

I am over halfway through my contract and I hope to keep my blackberry for as long as possible, but every phone out there seems to be touch screen.....not everyone likes touchscreens. Blackberry seems to be the only option for those who dont like touchscreens and just want a phone.

I also don't give a shit about apps.

I had the blackberry curve 8520 for a year and it was ok.

Got a new orange deal recently on Panther for the Samsung Galaxy s2 white and it is 100 times better.

Isn't it funny how people remember the negative stories but can never remember the follow ups. They're not pulling out of the consumer market completely. Small word but changes the whole meaning of the sentence completely.

Of course, these faults are totally unique to BlackBerry's - no other phones could possible suffer such a fault

Look its all personal opinion but the problem for RIM is fewer and fewer people are agreeing with you. It is a real possibility that they could go bust, their market share is in rapid decline.

If I had a business I would equip all my employees with Blackberrys because as a business tool they are great, simple email, simple functions and simple useage plus BBM.

Also the lack of apps and things means less destractions.

Great phone for serious business users.

Out of as many friends and family members that I can think of off the top of my head, only at most 4 have had any issues with other brand of phone. The only two issues that stand out were when my boyfriend's WP7 mobile crashed after the Mango update and when one of my friend's iPhones stopped charging one day.

7 out of 7 people with Blackberrys having quite major issues is pretty bad. How many people do you know who's iPhone's screen dies or who's Android phone's aerial brakes after 5 months?

I think, at the end of the day, it all comes down to one question you need to ask yourself:

"What do I want out of a mobile phone?"

This is what I did and I knew the following:

1) I hate touchscreens, cannot get on with them, tried iphone - lots of fun, but just don't get on with it.

2) I want a phone for email, text, physical keyboard, phone functions (obviously!), reasonable camera with flash and music player (not fussed about it being top quality)

3) I would like Facebook on my phone, but other than that, I am not interested in apps, it's more for business. Besides, I have a new ipod touch for apps and that sort of thing!

4) I want something with a fairly decent battery, can't be bothered to remember to charge it up each day

...and there you have it, ended up with a Blackberry Bold 9780.

It's a decent enough phone, had it for two years now, very reliable and robust, never broken, love the keyboard and it serves me well for texting and email. The camera is a 5mp one with flash (and auto focus) which actually takes quite good images - I use it alot.

The battery (even after 2 years solid usage) is still reasonable. I can go with medium-ish type usage for about 3 days without charging.

I am only on a PAYG contract, but, rather bizarrely, I get free internet access due to some sort of glitch - so another reason I wouldn't wanna change it!!

So, hence really why I say you do need to ask yourself what you want out of a phone - and then make a decision accordingly.

Blackberry's are not as much fun or as useful as iphones, but if you want simple business like functions and fairly good camera and music player then perhaps they are worth considering (well, my bold 9780 is great for all these things, cannot comment on other models as I have no other experience)....

Yes, the underline word says it all. Just because YOU can't think of anyone that's happy with their BlackBerry doesn't there aren't happy BlackBerry owners.

As for you asking me about iPhones, Android devices - I can't answer that as I've never owned either so cannot say. I only speak from experience of the phones that I have owned. I've got a BlackBerry, (2 yrs almost) never had a single problem with it. I don't go round slagging off iPhones or other devices - as I know nothing about them, nor have any interest in finding out about them.

At the end of the day (as I said at the beginning of the thread) it's down to the individual. What's right for one, isn't right for everyone.

As I also said, which you didn't answer, why do people only concentrate on the negative. Never remember the good things. Oh yea, it's because they're an iPhone/Android owner and their phone HAS to be better than everyone else's... silly me.

Oh get off your high horse for god sake. Not completely but i can almost guarantee that getting on soon on PAYG will be impossible which of course most people using BB's will be on.

The company is very close to going down the tubes. A BB does absolutely nothing now another phone cant do much better. Even its email isn't enough to make people stay. BBM is being surpassed by free alternatives.

Apart from a keyboard there is absolutely no reason to stay with a sinking ship like RIM.

I have a Blackberry 9360 and I love it . I like a keypad and hate touchscreen phones so the blackbery suits me fine, and I find it so easy to use and navigate and it has a great camera with flash. which some bb`s dont Its just what appeals to you so I would suggest you go along to the shop and ask to try out a few handsets then decide.what you like best ,,thats what I did

It is not a real possibility they could go bust, they are still a profitable company.
They have a larger market share in the UK than the iPhone!
They are one of the fastest growing handset makers in key emerging markets like India, Indonesia etc...

There is so much hate on this thread from people who have either never owned a BlackBerry or only used a Curve 8520 (which is the most basic BlackBerry and has been on the market for almost 4 years). Or work issued BBs which are almost always locked down so much that you can't do anything on them.

There are still a lot of advantages of owning a BB: Keyboard, Battery Life, form factor, BBM, security, push email, efficient data use, UMA compatible (orange signal boost), cheaper handsets.

There are over 60,000 apps now in BlackBerry app world. So the expression 'hardly any apps' is WRONG.

I totally accept that if you've had a BB and it was crap, fine, but all this hate from people who have never owned or used a BB is ridiculous.

iMessage is basically BBM but better. You don't have to mess about with Pins and it does everything automatically.

hmmm iMessage isnt really that good considering it can only be used between apple devices. I use it but Whatsapp is much better than both.
