Will there even be a BGT next year?

Ive read that one of Simons shows has got a contract with ITV until 2013.... not sure if it was BGT or X Factor??

If BGT is NOT tied into a contract, will there even be a series next year?? It seems very tired from DS posters point of view.

Given that ratings are taking a pasting from The Voice, you'd expect an invigorated show to give its rival some real competition, but it doesnt appear so. IMO Cowell has kinda given up on this one....

Surely better to come back with a new formatted show instead of BGT limping off to a slow death.

The X Factor I dont think is finished yet...

Yes of course there will be a BGT next year. BGT got 9.43m on saturday with a peek of 11m and it's up from last year.

ITV signed a 3 year deal for 2011-13 and David Walliams, at least, signed a 2 year contract.

People know what the show is by now! It was good when it first started, and its still the same show now.

Discussing this with a work colleague he says to me: "Britains got talent has got boring now." I straight away questioned this asking him why did he mention the word now at the end of the sentance.

By the way to make it clear I am a fan of the show, and I don't mind people not liking it. But its statements such as my work colleagues or the quote above that I do find strange.

It's ratings aren't taking a pasting though? They're higher than The Voice's.

The gap is closing though and they are much higher when they overlap. Surely if BGT was that good people will switch over?

I personally thought the voice would lose viewers, not gain.

Surely the reason The Voice is winning the overlap is that it is on for an hour before BGT so people are recording BGT and then switching over rather than watching 60 minutes of an 80 minute show and then missing the end?!

Indeed. If BGT was on first it would win the overlap. People are lazy.

Well that's good news and unusual . I thought they were all on short term contracts, some noteably so

I presume it was so he wouldn't do a Michael McIntyre.

I think Simon should pack the UK X Factor and Britain's Got Talent up and concentrate on America. Even though viewing figures remain high, it's clear that audiences are on the decline and there has never been a greater dissatisfaction with the two shows. Let's be honest, how many positive threads are there on here?

Personally I think BGT is far better than The Voice. I watch both but find BGT brightens my Saturday night.

I enjoy both his shows.

BGT is up from last year, the X Factor was the most watched TV serious last year, why would he want to pack em up?

Yes, I personally prefer BGT. It's just a bit more fun and varied IMHO.

What I don't like are all the ads though. In this way, The Voice is far better.

Because it would be far better to end a show which has a 'shelf life' when it it still deemed successful in terms of ratings rather than drag it on and people forgot the once 'great' shows and just think how awful it is - basically what happened with Big Brother.

Personally, I wouldn't renew the deal for either of Simon's shows next year, although still generally good, they're both starting to feel more than a little jaded now.

To be fair, the poster was correcting their own spelling error so that's OK!

People have forgotten BGT was 'supposed' to be about selecting someone to perform at the Royal Variety Performance.Aligning this show to the Royal Variety Show has made it all a bit tacky really. Can the RVP do without Cowell's 'big' check though.Perhaps the actual Royals should think about digging into their own deep pockets to save being associated with this show.As it seems the Royals are trying to convince everyone how 'common' they are these days perhaps that won't happen.Without appearing too highbrow myself - you can't get more common than BGT can you

They need to give it a rest. They are really struggling this year and bigging up average acts doesn't help.

It will be on next year, it's one of the few things that rate well for ITV at that time of year. Also, they wont want The Voice to go up without the BGT competition next year, that would be an own goal on ITV's part as it would give The Voice ample room to grow.

The Voice has no chance next year if it goes up against BGT. It completely collapsed last night to 4.5m viewers, and in its early years BGT often had to face good weather and wasn't really affected by it.
