To clarify, I mean anything along the lines of a bad career move, promotional problems, single/album release choices or just generally bad decisions made by an artist or their management which may have damaged their career or credibility in the music industry.

What got me thinking this was it seems many have opinions on what their favourite artists should have released as singles, and a lot of the time management get blamed for bad decisions regarding portrayal in the media and how they go about giving their client the best chance at success they can achieve. There must be countless 'mistakes' like this either by an artist directly or their management which has directly had a negative impact on their career as a whole.

Here are some examples which I have picked up on either through this forum or myself personally if I'm still not being clear:

- Whoever decided to release 'Already Gone' as Kelly Clarkson's next single from 'All I Ever Wanted' despite obvious comparisons with 'Halo' by Beyonce which she herself had pointed out.

- Monica and Brandy's 'It All Belongs To Me' using the word facebook in the lyrics, though this doesn't bother me at all I've had countless friends dismiss it because of it, though this probably didn't hurt it.

- Nadine Coyle's debut album 'Insatiable' released exclusively through Tesco.

So what do you think are the biggest mistakes in Music?

- Garth Crooks attempting to reinvent himself as a grunge rocker using the psydonym Chris Gaines.
- Robbie Williams ending working with Guy Chambers
- Kings of Leon sell out
- Jefferson Airplane become more commerical, eventually becomming the abysmal Starship
- Pat Boone releases a cover album of heavy metal songs
- Sun Records gives up the contract of Elvis Presley
- Decca Records turn down the Beatles, stating that 'guitar bands are on the way out'
- Van Halen replace Dave Lee Roth with Sammy Hagar
- Queen's 'I Want To Break Free' video. Which completely killed their popularity in America.

Cliff's biggest mistake was allowing himself to be manipulated by the record companies to be more commercialised and in doing so ruining his reputation. You cannot dismiss some of Cliff's early work, 'Move It' for example is a corking track.

Plan B deciding to release an album of rap-infested street-wise material instead of a pop/soul influenced album follow-up to 'The Defamation of Strickland Banks'.

Bad move indeed !

Did she?

JoJo's label/management putting her career on hold for 5 years now! Also allowing all of her material to leak.
I don't think she can make a strong comeback now.

The Saturdays; pretending that Wordshaker never happened. There were some gems on there. Launching with Forever Is Over, not Ego. Not releasing Here Standing, Faster or White Lies.

Leona not releasing Outta My Head or Naked. One of these tracks could have saved the Echo era. Stupid Syco!

Pitbull featuring on a million different tracks.

Sugababes- releasing Get Sexy, giving up on the Freedom campaign and making it a free download.

Taio Cruz decline in decent material.

Britney not promoting Femme Fatale, also not releasing Inside Out!

JLS releasing, actually recording The Club Is Alive...why?!

I don't those 'mistakes' are in the same league as Decca and The Beatles or Garth Brooks and Chris Gaines.

Well I'm not sure how 'official' it really is. I remember reading a review of About You Now in my Australian newspaper after it hit #1 in te UK and #57 here. They were reporting it was offered to Kelly as a track for My December which at the time was reported numerous times that she refused to record a typical pop follow up to Breakaway.

No doubt it would have been huge for her in the USA.

Hmm that quote didn't work out like I wanted it to.

More and More R&B/Urban artists going to dance pop e.g Usher, Kelly Rowland, Taio Cruz etc

Nadine's shameful tesco deal

Spice girls awful comeback song "Headlines"

Continuing Sugababes after Keisha's departure (although i did like Sweet 7)

Cheesy pop acts like Steps and S club 7 to be allowed to reunite.

Yes, but most of the mistakes are just releasing the wrong single here or there. There are many examples of that over the years. But the Pitbull example is good, is it not symptomatic of far too many collaborations designed to maximise the market potential of a recording?

As for The Sugarbabes, the big mistake would seem to be Mutya going solo or the introduction of Amelle? Or tuning the whole band into a franchise?

Sugababes - Giving up on Freedom, some fans actually wanted to hear the album they'd supposedly been working on for two years.

The Saturdays - Their single choices and management are a complete mess a lot of the time.

Britney - The fact she barely promoted Femme Fatale. It could have been so much bigger.

Alexandra Burke - The fact that she hasnt cracked the states yet.

Queen releasing a gay nightclub sounding semi-dance album. The worst thing I've ever heard. The greatest band I've ever heard. I'm so conflicted.

Gaga deciding to do an Itunes countdown of promo singles before the release of Born This Way.

MDNA. The imagery is right, the name is right all for a trancy, amazing, euphoric album. It's a shame it sounds so dated and weak.

Britney Spears "Hold it against me" being released as the lead over "Till the world ends"

For that matter, "Till the world ends" not being released by Kesha.

His even worse move was to appear on that Elton John tribute programme. Dogs were hiding under the bed, small children had nightmares, grown men wept.

I agree with all these. Wordshaker wasn't really that bad an album. I don't think Forever Is Over should have been recorded by The Saturdays though. It would have suited Kelly Clarkson more. The Sats should stick to pop and maybe dance (like All Fired Up).

Mariah Carey covering I Want To Know What Love Is, her Memoirs album was going so well until she released that.

Lady Gaga- She released 5 singles last year and only 1 topped the Billboard Hot 100(Born This Way). She tried to hard to shock the world with her performances last year but sadly failed.

Nicki Minaj releasing Stupid Hoe

Girls Aloud taking a break while they were at their peak.

Eminem
a. Duetting with Elton John
b. Sniffing Brunos butt
c. Continually dissing Mariah Carey because she dumped him

Chris Cornell - Making an album with Timbaland
Latoya Luckett and Latavia Roberson - Daring to question Matthew Knowles management style
Bob Marley - Choosing religion over life saving surgery
Prince - Changing his name to an unpronounceable symbol
