What should I replace my HTC Desire with?

I've had my phone for about two years now and the contract is coming to an end. I've liked my HTC desire. I've hardly ever used it to make calls, but it has been really handy in many situations.

So what phone should I get now?

Any advice appreciated.

Assuming you want to stick to android I would go for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus due to it having vanilla Android and google controlling updates.

Do you need a new phone? Otherwise stick with your Desire and just get a cheaper line rental instead.

i too went from a Desire to a Nexus.

The desire is a great phone but the Nexus is on another level

I thought i might miss Sense but with vanilla ICS it really isnt necessary.

The only downside IMHO is the lack of an SD card slot but this really doesnt bother me as much as I had thought it would.

Having owned a Nexus I dont now think I would ever go for an Android with an overlay (Sense/MotoBlur/Touchwiz etc) again.

How are you finding the size of the nexus? I'd love to go vanilla android but the size could be a problem

If you are happy with the desire then why change it ?

The only problem I have had with mine was it kept running out of memory. However I am now running a custom ROM and given it a whole new lease of life.

The HTC Desire S

It's virtually identical, except:

It's lighter
It's smaller
It's more attractive
It has twice as much memory
It has a front-facing camera
There's more ROM
The battery life is better

I upgraded from Desire to Sensation XE. On Orange, you can now download Ice Cream Sandwich. It's an amazing phone. Blows my old desire out the water!.

That was 2 months ago... If I was upgrading mow, I'd look at the new HTC One. looks amazing.

I have gone from a Desire to a One X. It's like the Desire on steroids, with a screen and performance to die for. ICS and Sense 4 work really well together.

The Nexus is a great size (in my opinion). not too big and yet it packs in a big screen (partly due to the lack of physical buttons). I fancied a change from Sense (otherwise id have felt like i wasnt really getting a new phone) and the Nexus fitted the bill.

Sensible advice IMO. If you're happy with your current handset, it's worth looking into some SIM only deals. No point in upgrading just for the sake of it. If O2 have good signal coverage in your area, Giffgaff are worth a punt. Of course you could also get in touch with your current provider threatening to leave and they should offer you a better deal than you're getting now.

But if you must replace your Desire, it all depends on your budget and what you want from a phone.
