Are tablet screens too small ?
Toshiba are introducing a new 13 inch tablet size which I personally think is great.
http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2012/...ream-sandwich/ Tablets are too small and make content like web, video and pictures looked squashed and tiny. Theres also talk these small Smartphone and tablet screens are doing peoples eyes in. Since getting my S2 I have had eye strain a couple of times because of holding it too close for too long. |

I don’t find them too small – 7” ones are fine for me and 10” ones are common as well which I find a little too large to easily hold and use so I would say that a 13” in probably too large and cumbersome to be ideal…at that size a laptop would probably be more convenient especially with the extra weight that you would need to carry.
If you have to hold the screen quite close it sounds more like a need for glasses rather than because the available tablets are too small – a 7” tablet is the approx. size of a normal paperback book. |

TBH if I needed a tablet that size, I'd use a laptop. I suspect 13" tablets won't be very popular.

The whole idea of a tablet is that it's small. I think 13 is too big. 10in tablets feel about the right size to me but I can understand the market for smaller almost pocket sized 7in models.

If you mostly use a tablet for web surfing on the couch, then I don't think a 13" would be too large, as long as it was light enough.
It might also support higher resolutions and be better for videos. But I doubt if many would be prepared to pay extra for it. I've got a 10" Motorola Xoom, and it's an ideal size for surfing, but feels cramped when you are trying to type anything (like now). |

if I want a 13" screen I would be looking for a laptop. Its just too big to comfortably hold in your hand for any extended period I think.

Nah, 10.1" screens are perfectly fine. You never heard people complaining that notebook screens were "too small". You buy a tablet because you want a portable "big screen" experience - not because you want a giant screen.

It depends, there are a range of tablets ranging from 7 - 10.1". The new flagship Samsung tablet will be 11.6" screen. However if the rumours are to be believed, the size of the tablet will be the same as the 10.1" tablet. The size of the bezel on the new tablet will be reduced. The 10.1 has quite a large bezel.
The current 10.1 tablet, is about the largest overall tablet size I would buy, maybe a maximum of an inch more. A 13" tablet, I would have to what the overall size would be. I thought the Galaxy note would be a flop, it turned out to be a huge success for Samsung, so who knows maybe a larger tablet would be what the consumers are after. |

A 13 inch screen will be just about perfect for viewing comics, provided the actual tablet is light enough. With the folding screens that will eventually be common you could have a broadsheet sized computer you roll up and stick under your arm.

I think the Vega's 10.1in screen is just right, especially for portability.

I love my 7.7" Samsung Galaxy Tab -- it's higher resolution than an iPad 2, so there's plenty of screen "real estate", and it fits in my jacket pocket. Personally I don't see the point in any tablet that would require me to start carrying a bag around with me -- I may as well use a laptop or netbook in that case. I like to travel light!

On my laptop I have a bookmarks side bar in Opera with 150+ icons I can click.
So even for plain old web usage even a bigger tablet would probably not suit my average size fingers. Streamlined, elegant, intuitiveand loads of other words oftem seem to be code for dumb and stupid. 13" tablets will be popular though 11.6" may be deemed about right. Some inadequacies can be slightly alleviated by making the screen bigger. |
