I took my cat to the vets today for her annual booster jabs and the vet recommended Advocate. Does any else her use that on their pets and how good is it? How much do pay and is it prescription only? I don't want to buy it online if it's made in China and I can't verify the ingredients.

Works very well, wipes out fleas for at least a month, and is not made in China, SFAIK, at least the stuff my vet gives me isn't (it's made by Bayer). The other well-known one is Frontline, also excellent, and available at your local branch of Pets at Home.
I'll have to give the Advocate a try once Frontline finishes. I use frontline already but she won't take the worming tablets and the vet said Advocate contains worming ingredients which control them. I don't need to buy the seperate tablets, forgot the name, begins with D.

We use Advocate for the dog and the cats once a month.
As it only covers roundworm, they have Drontal one every 3 months for the tapeworm.

My vet switched to Advocate, but then decided to go back to Stronghold. I couldn't see much difference. Whichever my vet prescribes, I try to get online as it is almost half the price. I use Viovet. Advocate is a prescription only solution.

Advocate also treats ear mites. It works quickly too.
Usually I buy frontline online but used advocate recently. It is expensive though and with the price of a prescription from the vet it didn't work out cheaper online.

She won't eat Drontal. I broke it up and stuffed it into bite size peices of chicken breast and she refused to eat it and hasn't touched chicken breast since.

Never heard of vivovet, i'll have to go away and read about it.
We get Advocate for our two as part of out VetPlan payment. £8 a month and includes all vaccinations, 6-monthly checkups, worming and 10% off all treatments. To be honest we never use it as they get their worming tablets at their 6-monthlys and are house cats. I have boxes of the stuff in a cupboard!! Can I sell it?
We use Advocate on ours. Works very well. Particularly glad it works on ear mites, as they seem to be magnetically attracted to him!

I think Stronghold and Advocate are the same, or it could be Stronghold and Advantage that are the same - I get Advocate and Advantage mixed up.
The other thing to remember OP is that Frontline also kills ticks and the others don't, so if you live somewhere where there's a tick problem (like I do), that's something you have to consider.

Milbemax is a far smaller tablet which is coated and you can pop it down, but it's PoM - you have to get it from the vet. It treats all kinds of worms found in the UK.

Most of the cats don't notice it as we break it up into tiny pieces and mix into very very tasty food like pilchards or sardines.
I have one cat with Cerebellar Hypoplasia and he won't tolerate it no matter how we offer it. We tried the 'forcing method' of putting it in his mouth and tickling his chin which works for one of the others but he actually pierced the centre of my nail with his tooth so now he has panacur syrup on his food.
The dog is the hardest to give the drontal to as she spits it out of everything. We do actually have to wrestle with her to get it into her which is even worse as she is now on the largest dose plus small dog as she is 42 kgs so it's 2 huge tablets!

The cat's tooth in your nail sounds painful, I'd have that plus I would be covered in loads of scratches and bites. I don't bother as I once attempted to trim her claws whe n she was 3 months old. It was a horrible experience for me.I doubt the cat would accept panacur syrup she is so fussy and any changes and she refuses to touch it again.

Milton is very particular too, it takes a week of sneaking tiny amounts into his food so that he won't notice. Luckily it is onyl every 3 months!

My cats fleas seem to have become immune to Frontline so my vet suggested Advocat. She then said that the cats would only need their Drontal yearly as opposed to the six monthly they have now (she does it for me free of charge - nice lady!)

Yes. One of our cats has a particular parasite problem and only Advocate controls it. However, being in the middle of fields, he goes comes back with tick infestations so we have to use Frontline as well to control the tick problem. Poor animal has to have a pour-on every 2 weeks.
Frontline is (though I've not checked the label recently) only supposed to kill ticks for 2 weeks but we find it easily lasts the month.
