I deinstalled the drivers, and then found an uptodate driver for it. Installed that and then kept hitting the connect button on the printer until it found it.. It did help that I kept rebooting the computer too..

Easiest might have been to get the MAC address off the printer's test page and then manually set up an IP association for it...
If they go skip diving isn't that actually illegal? Or does the BBC have special licence to do this..
