Bravia tv and external hard drive question
I've just bought 500gb external hard drive primarily for pc back up but also wanted to use it to record freeview hd programmes on my Sony Bravia 40nx723.
So I backed up pc last night (only took up about 60gb of space). However when I then plugged into my tv I got a message saying I had to register hdd with tv before using it to record and by registering this it will wipe any content off the hdd. Will I be able to register hdd, and the re-do pc back up and continue to use hdd for both my tv recording and pc back up? I'm thinking that every time I try to use hdd to record tv it may wipe off any pc back up every time. I'm hoping someone can confirm-cheers |

No you can't do that.
Essentially the TV re-formats the entire disk for streaming purposes. This is a different format from that of a PC hard disk drive. So if you swop over the drive either way then what was on before is lost in the re-format. I think the TV also locks the drive to that particular TV as part of that 'registering'. |

As Helmut10 says, you can't use it for two purposes, each time you swap it over the HDD is reformatted and wiped.
The HDD is also locked to that specific TV, you can't view the programmes on a different TV (not even the same model) nor can you transfer the data to a computer, or indeed even access the HDD on a computer without reformatting it. This is obviously for copyright reasons. |
