When was the last time you heard the Spice Girls?

I'm aware that Spice Girls music was never aimed at me as a music fan, but I find it weird how little I hear their music anywhere these days. Is there any other artist(s) whose music was so stuck in their own decade as the Spice Girls. When you consider their popularity (in many ways the Elvis/Beatles/MJ of the 90s), yet I don't know anyone who still listens to their music regularly like those other 3 (who obviously were more popular, but the point still stands). Is it a case of them being too manufactured for that particular decade for their music to stand the test of time. Or is it just me who hasn't heard them for a while?

Well i cant really amswer that as im a huge fan and follow there careers. There is never ending rumors about a reunion. I see your point about Elvis but i think hes a higher level. Imo yes there music is still around. With Geri they were at there most popular in only 2 years looked what they achieved if Geri had stayed they could`ve been in even bigger than big!

I'd say there's only a few classic pop songs here and there in the whole industry... I don't think any songs the Spice Girls produced have aged that well, problem is it's all abit of an "in and out of fashion" thing, few years and it's become dated. And the same thing will happen to all those out there today.

Of course there are some great pop related songs/albums out there... Michael Jacksons Thriller topping the pile, you listen to it and it seems ageless.

Just my opinion of course (before the usual knob heads get their knickers in a twist).

I dont know, If you listen to 2 become 1 or Viva Forever they sound just as good. And i heard people saying the same on the radio. Wannabe i think is dated now just a fan favourite now.

See those songs I haven't heard for like a decade. As I say, it's not my sort of music, but either is MJ and even prior to his death I constantly heard his music. He was obviously more popular, but I do find it extraordinary the transfer of their popularity through time, from where they were in 1998, to the virtual non-existence now. They even recently re-united.

In the media is different. I'm talking about the music. I'm just thinking of where their music stands today. You think of all the music throughout time that has aged so well; I don't think that applies to the Spice Girls at all, or 90s boy/girl bands in general. If someone started putting on a Spice Girls track in the car, I'd ask them what they were doing.

I see your point but there are loads of us that do put on the music still. I think there music has aged well and not as well as others no but also the Viva Forever Spice Girls Musical is coming up so there music is still huge.

why would you say something like that? is it so hard to imagine your opinions may not be popular and that is perhaps the reason why people disagree with your views? not everyone that joins in discussion is looking for confrontation, well there is obviously some that are.

as for `thriller`, as a song that is terribly dated. if that song was done by unknown artist. people would have considered it a novelty record. i really cant imagine that in the charts today, but that is just my opinion of course.

with the spice girls, let`s see if the musical reignites interest. the tour was very successful in the uk selling out 17 nights at the o2 and that was just over four years ago. that suggests there was at least demand for their music still at that point.

Well it is very possible it is just me, as it is far removed from the music I listen to, but then again legacy tends to transcend the genres and people like the previous 3 I mentioned and become entwined in popular culture. Spice Girls are probably the 4th biggest music phenom of the last 50 years, yet I don't see them celebrated in the same way. A lot of what they did has shaped music today, unfortunately.

i don't think they have a lot of ongoing airplay and there is an argument that the music is dated. however, does that mean there is no demand? we will have to see, with the musical just around the corner.

I was thinking last night how they are still my favourite group even though they are not currently together.

For me, no other artist comes close to making me feel as good as they did back in the day. I also remember being so excited about the reunion despite being x years older.

I am gutted they will not be performing at the Olympics or Jubilee. I would even consider a 4 piece again if it just meant some new stuff from them. I even think a Victoria replacement might work . . . for some reason I think Bev Knight would be a great Spice Girl.

Okay, enough of my delusions lol.

They got played so much in the 90s that everyone is sick of them now, You couldnt escape them or there music and most people know alot of there songs well even if you wasnt a fan.

I'm glad they are easy to avoid now

I actually threw 2 pairs of cool high-heeled wedge mules I had at the time, because of them killing (trashing) the look. Wish I hadn't now, as in this year.

Tony Blackburn played "Who Do You Think You Are" the other day on the rundown of the biggest selling albums in the UK. I swiftly turned the volume down as I didn't really want that being heard from my window.

I guess they were fun back in the day.

I'm pretty sure 'Stop' was used as backing music in Britain's Got Talent the week before last.

according to the spice girls artist`s page on the bbc, they are most likely to be heard on radio 1. now even madonna doesn't have much radio 1 airplay and she is most likely to be heard on radio 2 according to her profile.

I was listening to their Greatest Hits last week. They had some good singles. I rarely see their videos on music channels but I've seen Wannabe once or twice.

I can't remember the last time I heard their music from somewhere other my iPod and even then I would have to be feeling at least a little nostalgic to listen to them.

I do agree that their music and also that of other 90s pop groups can now sound dated, although that may be also be a slightly personal thing as I will always associate them with my childhood. I didn't really listen to or appreciate the likes of Madonna or Michael Jackson until I was in my teens and they thus don't have the same connotations of a lack of maturity or sounding dated.

I think a few days ago when they came up on shuffle
