My kid (when she was around 12 or 13) was really into TS. I have heard her music over and over again in my house. And since it all sounds the same to me, it's been hellish. I'm not a fan of thin, nasally country/pop music. We all like different kinds of music and that's ok. And I do think My December? is ok. Or I could be thinking of another song since they all sound the same. Idk. It was piano only.
The lines she sings here are a departure from that nasally country twang. This isn't great singing, it's better than it was singing. Good for her to try and change things up.

Auto-tune is a difficult one to judge, as almost all songs get re-touched for albums these days, but there is a difference between that and using auto-tune to put a singer back in key. I tend to judge it on how different artists sound live compared to on records. The only live reference I have of her is with a band called The Civil Wars, that I like. Judging by how she sounds on that, then any auto-tuning they are doing is a waste of time and money. Perhaps she is more my sort of thing than I credit her for. I do think I'm perhaps too old to be listening to disney-esque "Love Story" though. She's still very pretty though.
