`S ok Betty , misunderstandings are rife on here , I shouldn`t have been so quick off the mark
I just wanted to point out that according to others , another reason may be responsible for the poor rating , and I get where you are coming from , with your own experience , but I understood these ratings to have been introduced in 2011 , so perhaps the criteria is different now ?
It`s highly possible I`ve misunderstood

Momma ... No problem.. We all get a bit "quick off the mark " at times.. Me included .. As I said before this is down to the person running the cafe not Peter. He is just the owner. His brother runs it doesn't he? If so he is the one to blame

1 star can be awarded for insufficient paper work or record keeping. If you want the real reason for the one star apply for the report from the local council under the freedom of information act. Perhaps the DM should research properly for a change.

Businesses given ratings of ‘0’ or ‘1’ must make urgent or major improvements to hygiene standards. The local authority food safety officer will use a number of enforcement tools as well as giving advice and guidance to make sure these improvements are made.

Too much attention on getting it in the news IMO and not enough on the nuts and bolts of running a professional business.

I'm sure they'll sort it out but it's a bad start and bad publicity for them in a difficult market.

Also, either I've dreamed it or I read somewhere that he's just signed a lease on his 2nd coffee shop in Brighton. Not good timing or advertising with such a poor rating on the existing 'showcase' shop.

Maybe they should focus on running one properly before expanding the NY 'coffee experience'.
Agree with all of that .....I wonder if his brother has had any experience in similar ventures. But no, not good at all..hopefully this won't be too damaging (I'd steer clear) and they can turn it around. Wouldn't like to see any buisiness fail especially as jobs are involved.

Well, they could get jobs at Greggs next door?

The bad thing is the cafe will now have a bad reputation in the area and this rating could damage the name for ever.
As I stated before this is down to his brothers miss management not Peter. Although maybe he needs more involvement to make sure it runs better

Indeed, mud sticks.....the first change in situations like this would be to get rid of the manager

I agree with you, but CAN like a bit of "spin" and will promote the shop, PA making appearances and filming the place packed out will probably get some of the fans in for a while.

Haha re agreeing. As long as they take it seriously, pull their fingers out, make the changes required, bring it up to standard and get a clean bill of health at the next visit, they should be ok. But it does suggest slack/inexperienced management and that's the much bigger longterm issue. No one wants to see a business fail and people losing their jobs so hopefully, it'll be a wake-up call for the Mgt.

No one wants to see anyone lose their jobs but no one wants to see anyone ill, or worse with food poisoning either, no matter who the owner of the cafe is

I can picture the place already... girls with greasy hair and big hoop earings sat in the corner drinking coffee on a table that's smudged all over with fake tan.

As a chef by trade I have NEVER been given a 1 and 1 is BAD

You can see the reports online so i find itfunny that PA's Press are trying to make light of this!

Had to look this up as it made me laugh first time. As amateurish as his cleaning staff by the sound of it.

Maybe if 'we the brothers' had been less concerned about the bookshelf (such innovation!) and a 'relaxed atmosphere' and had focused more on the quality of service, they wouldn't now be staring in embarrassment at a one star rating.
