It was a weak show so may have seen a drop off throughout plus the idiotic ad placements would've hurt it in the first twenty minutes.

What's the current status of the Carling Cup and Football League highlights? I was under the impression the BBC were going to drop them but I could be wrong.

I'm leaning toward them both breaking 10 million this week. Although I'm not entirely confident that Talent will achieve that without +1 figures. We'll see what happens though. Its proven to be pretty tricky predicting both shows ratings up till now though...


Eventually someone at ITV will workout what they want Daybreak or at the very least that morning slot to be. Until that day though the biggest problem that slot is going to have will be the complete lack of coherent identity.

Task number 1 for the slot though should be to find a likeable (young) news anchor and build whatever format you decide upon around them.

I don't think a decision on Highlights has been made yet. But the BBC's live games are gone.

I wouldn't call it a weak show. Admittedly it wasn't as good as last week but it was still enjoyable - if you want a weak show go watch one of last year's episodes! It has started late every week bar the launch show (just look at the tapechecked rating for a fairer reflection of how it did) and I don't think one ad break being badly placed is going to have a massive effect.

The Voice was good too but Jessie J remains irritating and certain journalists on Twitter did overhype it last night.

If I was on my own I'd have turned BGT off tonight.
Was dreadful.

Also explained why they do poorly ratings wise in Scotland. Every year this happens, YET we see later much better acts FROM Scotland, but not in the 'make fun of Scotland' section.

Also its not X Factor, and the acts were awful. Wtf was tonights about?


Meanwhile The Voice is getting ready for the battle rounds and had another great episode (is it just me or does The Voice show more talent in its auditions than BGT does in its finals?)

Not a flaw at all - quite deliberate in fact! Notice how they put those damn awful girls on just before her and they got through with ease? And next week, we'll probably get "battles" between two great acts and 2 mediocre acts. And DS will be livid "how did they get through and she didn't?". It's the whole point, really. Sacrificing some of the best talent often makes for the best TV moments. X Factor does it at judges houses and usually in "week 5" of the live shows where the judges make controversial and inexplicable decisions to send a favourite home.

It's a bit like how all these experienced sorts pop up on The Voice early on each episode. A couple of acts get through then someone with previous experience - who you'd bet on going through - somehow doesn't. And you're screaming at the TV "turn around!"...

It's all coincidence of course. I'm not suggesting for a second that any situations on these shows are being contrived for entertainment purposes nor that the producers of either show have ever played any role in determining who proceeds to the next round. (This section was added at the request of my lawyer... )

Won't get round to watching BGT tonight but The Voice was good. Not as brilliant as it was hyped to be - and I'm still not entirely sold on the talent being the next set of global superstars. But they played out the ending quite well with that whole will.i.am thing and I think it will do even bigger damage to BGT tonight because people will definitely have hung around for that final sequence. If BGT was sh*t it probably won't matter too much tonight (maybe next week). But I think we're probably looking at a 1m gap between the shows tonight anyway.

dont be stupid, the only thing that can save Daybreak, is that Russian Meerkat, whos website keeps getting crashed by people looking for cheap car insurance.

Isn't that like saying EastEnders is better than Coronation Street because it has more cockneys in it.

i.e isn't the whole point of The Voice that it has wall to wall good singers, whereas that isn't the point of BGT.

It's funny that now The Voice has come along, suddenly the long established mix of good and bad acts per show is now a negative. Nobody seemed to mind before!

The problem for me is Britain's Got Talent got the mix wrong tonight IMO. Why were two female singers shown tonight? More Talent aired a good impersonator, comedian and mentalist - couldn't we have seen at least one, if not more, of them on the main show?

I thought the same. Its not X Factor. Its a lot to do with who they want on the finals mind, so maybe More Talent ones got dropped later?
Who knows, it didn't really work tonight, and thats an issue I suppose.

@Andy23, some have always complained about the good/bad ratio. Especially for BGT, its not a new thing.

Because none of them were really that good. Nobody on More Talent is ever that good as otherwise they'd be on the main show. I do think they should have put one of those two singers on a different week but they were both pretty good in fairness (Paige was the best though). BGT was still a good show tonight, with Paige and Walliams dancing on stage particular highlights. The basketball act was something a bit different too.

Have they picked the finalists yet? It'll be interesting to see the next three shows as some acts which have been on More Talent suddenly pop up on the main show because they have been picked as one of the semi finalists.


The comedian was pretty good, though I did wonder if she was a bit risque for an earlier slot. The impersonator was funny as was Simon's reaction to him. The menatlist was pretty clever and it would've made a nice change from the singing and dancing acts which plague the show.

They were picked back in February so I don't think there will be any repetition, although I suppose they could pop up in montages if they've got through to the semis.

I did wonder. I'll keep an eye out of the montages - I hope they do pop up; just to offer something different if nothing else.

Think The Voice could get 15m for its final - possibly more. Everyone seems to not only be watching it, but enjoying it! Personally haven't seen a show touch so many 'social spheres' in my life - different mates (including reality TV/XF haters), my Mum, my little cousins ... all seem to have noticed it and be liking it.

It's a good show. It strikes the best balance of being 'XF style' commercial' while having a 'serious about singing' authenticity about it. The four judges work very, very well together - and the fact that they're all successful musicians helps push the show's more serious message. The fact that they've put in sob stories etc was inevitable and I think a good move, actually. The show had a potential danger in that it could have been a bit too 'serious' and alienated some viewers.

What it managed to do, effectively, is take everything good from X Factor and do the complete opposite of nearly everything else bad. I should think Cowell is actually past being extremely worried about The X Factor, and more resigned to the fact it will not bounce back this year: in fact, I'd be surprised if this isn't the last series. He's not one to flog a dead horse.

Simon will be hard at work on a new format for 2013.

As for The Voice ... expecting high ratings tonight and exponential growth for the series. Certainly will be the top reality show of the year, I reckon.

Both The X Factor and Britain's Got Talent are contracted until 2013 so unless The X Factor collapses completely there will two more series at least.

And everyone I know dislikes the show but I understand we're in the minority.

I hope you are wrong, and I think you will be.

I just can't see Voice growing week on week, it has gone up each of it's first 3 weeks but I am going to stick my neck out and predict it will be down on last week when the overnights come out tomorrow and BGT will regain the lead.

As the nights get lighter and hopefully warmer, I think it will decline as the performance shows start - when presumably it will be even more of a TXF copy?

JamesJ, you could be right: Simon Cowell is developing a new talent show format to take over X Factor:

The Voice will grow again this week; that much I'm sure of. I'm pretty sure it'll also beat Britain's Got Talent. There is an argument that it should see a dip next week with the Battle Rounds (as The X Factor does with Bootcamp) but without a clash it may not suffer much at all.

I like The Voice but the hype is bizarre. I genuinely don't think it's THAT good. I do think people have desperately wanted an alternative to The X Factor so have enthusiastically latched on to the first thing that has come along.

My problems with the show are that good (extraordinarily good) singers are turned away and yet all four coaches will turn and rave about quite average singers. And Jessie J and will.i.am are INCREDIBLY irritating to watch. Jessie in particular I find quite hard to like.

On the plus side it is a well produced show and it is good Saturday night entertainment. But it's not really anything more than that.
