I have a feeling the blind auditions are the best thing about The Voice. From the previews next week it didn't look great. But I do think the lack of a clash should negate any dip that might have signified and it should be fine. The Sunday show especially will rate very well I think.

I doubt ITV will want to take a risk on something new in place of The X Factor if they still have The X Factor under contract. Alongside it, maybe, but not in place of it.

That's if The X Factor holds up, of course.

I think 10million for the Voice.

I think 15million is possible for the Final.

I would disagree with that. There's rarely an occasion where a better singer is turned away after an average singer is put through. Very rarely if ever that happens. I understand it's part of the nature of The Voice's format but it does happen a little too much for my liking.

Dope is slang for good in America, not really used much here though. When you grow up in those areas and among similar people that is part of the vernacular. It's the language of the streets in America. I can see how it would be a culture shock to most people whose exposure to rap or hip hop is minimal.

15m in Summer will be tricky. Not many shows get 15m these days anyway. I think 12-13m would be more likely but you just never know.

Sustaining momentum through the battle rounds, Britain's Got Talent's final weekend and the Friday night show is key. It appears more than capable of doing this, though.

Having just seen the latest Voice trailer on BBC1, for the "battle weekend", it occurred to me that as it is all pre-recorded, in front of a studio audience, then there must be a lot of poole who know who the finalists are; as Voice seems to be the most tweeted about show of the moment, it seems surprising that the names aren't all over the internet, like the latest SCD evictee does before the results show airs?

I disagree - I thought BGT had the show of the series tonight with generally good acts making it through (maybe they're trying to play The Voice at their own game but there was only one short montage of failed acts tonight).

The Voice was the same as ever - a mixture of good acts getting put through or rejected. I can't say that any of the 40 put through particularly stand out so far as anything special - certainly wouldn't label any of them a star in the making yet.

The Battle format could also lead to a bit of a backlash with half the acts eliminated - there are bound to be a few Gamui's amongst them seemingly getting kicked off and letting "weaker" singers through. I suspect though the BBC would be all for that as The Voice has been far more about the PR campaign than what is happening on screen.

I kind of agree with Agent F - it is not a bad show at all but the pretence that it is something that is clearly isn't (or to be more precise, isn't something it clearly is) is actually preventing me just sitting back and enjoying.

Yes, it is surprising considering The X Factor finalists are usually leaked weeks in advance - and they're filmed behind closed doors too.

I think this is where they could come unstuck on the live shows as if Jessie in particular is annoying now when the producers have had chance to edit the show accordingly, her and will.i.am will probably be even worse on the live shows where they can't edit it.

Don't you think you're being a bit defensive? You're not the only one, mind, as whenever The Voice is criticised it seems like its big fans on here all instantly bring BGT into the debate as some sort of defence mechanism, as though a comparison to BGT makes everything about The Voice wonderful.


I guess so yeah, and if Frank recovers over the next few weeks (as he hopefully will) then I guess they'll slot his episode back in later in the series.

This is my point. Although to be fair I think the show itself IS good and I am enjoying it. It's the people on here and on Twitter that seem to determined to keep that pretence going.

I agree with you about tonight's BGT too, I thought it was a good show, and I did notice a subtle shift away from the constant bad acts - only one montage tonight as you mention, although to be fair that is part of the format and the narrative of the show. People complain about it but it wouldn't work as well without it (IMHO).

15m is not impossible but would be very difficult. As grimshaw said the contestants will play a big part in how big the final is. If a contestant stands out and some headline grabbing moments happen then it could happen. It's just that those audiences for non sporting events in warm months are tough. When BGT had its highest ratings it was down to Susan Boyle primarily and people watched the final to see if she could win. Could Jaz Ellington and the Battle Rounds be the moment when the show gets that massive nudge that pushes it significantly up the ratings?

At first glance it's still a substantial list.

However if you go through your list and strip out events only every 4 years (*) and highlights the list goes down quite a bit. Many of the remaining events on the list are only one day per year.

There are 104 weekend days per year. In the year Sept 2012 to Aug 2013, on how many of those 104 days will the BBC have any live sport on BBC1 or BBC2? The number will have fallen massively compared to 2 or 3 years ago.

(*) Not saying those events aren't important - of course they are - they are the biggest events of all.

It does though, and it's less excusable than on The Voice where judges are meant to turn because they want a singer rather than because they just think they should go through.


No, both those things do apply to BGT, I like both for different reasons, I'd be doing the same if it was BGT that was getting all the criticism, I've been watching BGT since the start. I was one of the first to criticise both fans for being defensive about their favourite one.

Again, it's the same vice versa, the amount of people who usually moan about BGT that were in that forum when the series first started looking for anything to criticise The Voice with, praising BGT for doing the opposite, even when the opposite was one of the things they usually moan about.

The BBC have lost Carling Cup rights for the 2012/2013 season. This means once the European Chmapionships are out of the way the BBC will be showing NO live football. The BBC haven't just lost The Grand National they have lost ALL racing to Channel 4, so there will be NO racing on the BBC for the next 4 years. How much of the BBC's remaining sports portfolio bar Wimbledon, F1 and Six Nations will get big audiences? Not much.

Perhaps, but my point is I don't necessarily think that is the case. Despite what people may want to think.
