Yes, Itv1 needed to show a programme which they could take entire segments out of in case the FA Cup over-ran. They mustve had a 60 minute version of Big Quiz, 45 minute version [which was shown] and maybe even a 30 minute version. But Youve Been Framed couldve done that job Andy23!
Btw, if anyone does feel the need to fill in on The Big Quiz its on ITV1 on Tuesday at 10.35pm. ITV could now legitimately call it "A Bit More of The Big Quiz, or The Big Quiz extra! |

First I've heard of any overrun. I'd have thought Nine would want to hit the Logies on time, they also do the red carpet stuff beforehand.
The main criticism of The Voice Australia seems to be a poor host in Darren McMullen, so I'm guessing he features more than Holly and Reggie do on our version. Surprised they went for him to be honest, last I heard he was presenting some low-rent gameshow on ITV2. Bit of a step up! |

Didn't he host The Magicians on BBC One?
Lenny Henry did the one I saw. |

Mmm, the BBC could have lent them Coast which appears to broadcastable in any timescale.

I almost feel sorry for the Benidorm cast, having to face the TOWIE lot all the time, first in Family Fortunes, now in The Big Quiz. But only "almost". I'm not surprised Benidorm gets linked with TOWIE when the "quality" of the comedy makes On The Buses look like an Oscar Wilde play. |

Thanks for clearing up the overrun thing. Darren McMullen was last seen on The Magicians, for a novice he was good on it, I thought he was better than Lenny Henry last year. Interestingly, Holly and Reggie were initially going to appear on The Voice UK auditions shows much more as they filmed lots of studio links (as seen here after 1min) during filming but the producers mustve decided later on that the auditions phase works better with more narration and less on screen presenting.
I haven't really seen enough of Darren to comment, other than to say I'm quite impressed by his rapid rise from relative nobody to a real somebody in the world of TV presenting. Now, let's hope he doesn't do a Steve Jones! |

So, it was the biggest night of TV in Australia so far this year last night. Check back here later for full ratings coverage as they come in, including those all important numbers for the launch of The Voice Australia (which faced Seven's long-running hit Dancing with the Stars).
The marketing wars were easily won by Channel Nine with this spread on pages 2 and 3 of the Sunday Herald and Sunday Telegraph: https://twitter.com/#!/MediaweekAUS/.../photo/1/large Channel Seven meanwhile had to settle for pages 22 and 23: https://twitter.com/#!/MediaweekAUS/.../photo/1/large Is not just last night that was the big night, the whole week is set up to be interesting and Channel 9 may just win for the first time in maybe over a year. Reality overload which sees only half an hour of scripted content between the key hours of 7-9.30 sunday to thursday (if you don't include the voice which is very obviously scripted). In fact the fact that TBBT has only 1 episode this week shows how far 9 are pushing the boat out. Seven on the other hand have 3 episodes of Got Talent at 7.30 followed by Revenge on Monday, Rafters on Tuesday and Titanic on Wednesday. So it will be interesting to see if the Voice is strangled early on, or whether Seven lose some viewers. The Block will no doubt start excellently, and Celebrity Apprentice may not do so bad, especially as it has an episode on Thursday which is 7's weaker night, but it was probably better to leave that til the quieter spring months like last year. The Logies will no doubt do well, a lot of hype this year due to 5 lads from England, quite what the obsession is I don't know but the media has gone into a frenzy over them and opening the Logies and then presenting an award is no doubt likely to have gained some tennager viewers along the way. Quote:
Dancc is it true Channel Nine over-ran The Voice Australia into The Logies slot? This might mean a big peak for the first episode if lots of Logie viewers stumbled across it. I hear from sources that the show was a bit slow, but that same criticism was used towards the first episode of the UK's first episode too. On a positive note, the talent is strong on Voice Australia from clips Ive seen on YouTube which should help it going forward. I think The Voice Australia will just about beat Dancing with the Stars but itll be close.

It must be said that over runs are very common on Australian TV, My Kitchen Rules would not finish often until 8.50pm despite the next show supposingly starting at 8.30pm, with much fewer channels, and also no late news meaning the schedule has to stay between 7 and 10pm, I guess it is one way of keeping viewers longer and stopping people straying channels.
For Channel Nine last night advertising the Logies as 7.30pm meant that potentially upwards of 1 million people who may not have wanted to see the voice will have been exposed to it, and perhaps more crucially the key demos of young teenage girls with One Direction being heavily advertised as starting the Logies. The Voice will no doubt be tghe bigger show of last night on TV in terms of average, unless 9 split up the Logies. I stayed up until 11.30pm and by that point Tony Bennett had still not performed, and the Gold Logie needed to be announced, so a very late finish |

Insane pile-up in Australia over the next few days! The TV environment over there seems viciously competitive - even more so than the US. Surely there's just a complete overload this week, and some shows are going to have to take a beating... Quote:
2) why is 7 exploiting the memory of Titanic, I get that it has some Titanic specials, but they are over doing it with the big headline, and the Dancing With the Stars image?
This was how 7 decided to promote Downton Abbey, of all things, last year.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5SRGi7nuUqY ![]() : Not sure Julian Fellowes signed off on that one... It's like the guy who does the X Factor montages has taken over a whole channel.

And not forgetting Channel 10 going all out and showing Avatar on 'super sunday'. I suspect 10 will live to regret that, but what else could they have shown, and they wanted to save Touch until the Logies were out of the way.

Massive overrun for The Voice, Logies was listed as starting at 7.30, didn't start until 8. I have to say I really didn't like the Voice, yes the host was poor, however that can be said of most Australian reality shows, 7's over reliance of home and away actors often leads to charisma less clones presenting shows, the X Factor being prime example. However he didn't feature much at all on the Voice, just stood around in the background, the real 'stars' were the judges. For me the show was far too gimmicky, tonight for instance Guy Sebastian (an X Factor judge's brother) will be auditioning, as well as a blind woman, and there are far too many sob stories, much more than back in X Factor UK's early days. And apart from Delta which is a massive signing for 9, the panel just lacked something impressive

Add 20ish Pro 12 games, and you get 32. {and that excludes games on S4C, not part of BBC.
I'm not aware of 20 Pro 12 games being shown live on BBC1 or BBC2 across the UK. Indeed I'm not aware of any. |

In Holland, there is a show called The Voice Kids with child singers. Do you think BBC One might pick that up? Its already been renewed for a second season in Holland.

One True Voice was the boy band that lost out to Girls Aloud on Pop Stars: The Rivals. |

Besides, where will they air it? The summer will be too soon after the main show, unless they move that to the winter but it may suffer from singing show overload there. If they try and pitch it in the autumn it'll be up against The X Factor which won't be sensible - at least Britain's Got Talent is slightly different from the Voice. EDIT: Didn't think of CBBC. Possible but I doubt the main show's judges would be used. Holly and Reggie, possibly. |

It is ridiculous, especially when they have such strict rules over the sporting crown jewels, multi-channeling and original content on subscription TV (though of those rules only the last one is really in the interests of the viewers). Schedules down under are usually only announced days ahead of airing - and then ripped up or run late anyway.

From everything that I've seen of Australian TV promotion, they really don't know how to do subtle. This was how 7 decided to promote Downton Abbey, of all things, last year.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5SRGi7nuUqY ![]() : Not sure Julian Fellowes signed off on that one... It didn't light up the ratings board in quite the way I expected for Channel 4, so starting as late at 8.30pm against The Logies it's probably not going to be a roaring success for Ten. I'm just glad they dropped their previous idea of launching MasterChef tonight!
I'd love to see that. Channel Seven have had it too easy for too long. Nine clawing back audience share a bit and stringing a few wins together could really shake things up in the Australian market. Oh my goodness. I assume there's about 50 episodes on GO! to make up for it. ![]() Spot the weak link! Yeah, I can see what Nine were trying to do in that spread, making out the return of Celebrity Apprentice is a big as those other two launches for them. It clearly isn't. But maybe it will surprise us and start better than normal. It's got me baffled, I must say. International stardom is achieved with ease these days, it seems. Thanks for the info. Good review. Not long until we find out how it went. ![]() Channel 7 have only done so well because they put out popular programmes and not just comedy repeats or an over reliance on American programmes like Ten. I think Nine should have held back Celberity Apprentice, Tricky Business still needs to be slotted in somewhere and Thursday would have been a good night as 7 are weaker then. The only bright spot for Celebrity Apprentice is David Hasslehoff, that car crash alone will be worth some viewers. Monday and Tuesday are out of the question for once upon a time, unless it goes at 7.30pm Monday once AGT moves to twice weekly, though it may be Monday/Tuesday split than Tuesday/Wednesday. Thursday seems pretty solid with the medical dramas, and presumably Downton will go on Sundays. Personally I think Wednesdays will be the night once Titanic is over, which will only be 2 weeks anyway. AGT will move to Monday/Tuesday with Revenge and Rafters benefiting from the lead in, and Wednesdays will be Amazing Race Australia followed by Once upon a Time. Both of these shows have yet to be heavily promoted yet though so its wait and see for now |

Given that it airs in the summer which is a ratings dead period, it does decently but compared to big award shows like the Oscars and the Grammys, I agree it pales in comparison. I'm surprised neither BBC Four or Sky Arts air the Tonys as there is an audience for it.
