It's been funny reading the thread today seeing Robbie & co trying to spin the ratings in the BBC's favour, when the entire night from Silent Witness to EastEnders was poor, meanwhile the entire night even The Dales rated strongly for ITV.

So much for Silent Witness being a ratings monster that will crush everything in it's path. Also so much for the theory that people were only watching Scott & Bailey as it was the least bad option against Empire, and that it would sink without trace when it was up against proper competition!

Is it to much to mention the lead ins? No wonder SW lost! 9 million watching prime time drama is good. Watch those timeshifts.

The Voice continued its crash in the US last night as it dropped four tenths on last week and was below the equivalent episode of X Factor last Fall, and way below any of last year's performance shows. I really don't think it should come back in the Fall now, it needs a decent gap before the next season, and when it comes back they need to sort out the post-audition stage as the ratings have nearly halved since the Monday premiere. If X Factor does manage to sign Britney and makes a few changes, the positions of the main reality/talent shows in the US could be quite different to where they were last Christmas.

An up and down night with the biggest falls for How I Met Your Mother and The Voice.

The Voice UK beat The Voice US in total viewers this week as its US counterpart fell for the seventh consecutive week, set Monday season low, series low for a performance episode and fell 20% vs the equivalent episode last season. It also relinquished its hold on the Monday #1 spot which it has held since it launched in February - Two and a Half Men gained a tenth to win the night.

Thats not allowed at all. Such context is frowned upon round here.

Your not allowed to mention that Silent Witness had a 2.2m lead-in and Scott and Bailey had a 9.3m lead-in. Or that SW increased by 300,000 during it's episode and S+B fell by 700,000 and that SW was leading by 300,000 by the last 15 mins. Its not allowed!

Oh silly old ken! SW obviously is doomed and on the edge of a ratings crisis!

How come C4 is showing the premiere of Terminator Salvation? I thought C5's deal covered all Sony Pictures titles.

Interesting that the ratings fall post blind auditions stage. Could the same thing happen here?

I do have to ask - are the live shows for The Voice dropping viewers in the majority of countries? If so, could the same happen here? Or is America the 'exception to the rule'?

Its not pretty but I imagine The Voice will be adjusted up a tenth or two come finals later today. That doesn't make the situation a whole lot better obviously but every little helps and all that. Having watched a couple of the live shows I think the problem is that they lack a certain energy and the technical aspects of the production (the lighting in particular) remains pretty poor – as it was during season one.

Honestly at this stage I don't think there's much they can do to really change or revamp the live stages without losing the core of the show. And beyond that I still think Dancing with the Stars remains part of the problem with The Voice's live show performance. I suspect if those two shows weren't head-to-head both would be performing noticeably better.

The fact that (almost) everything was down on Monday night though suggests there might be some bigger problems with the night for broadcast as a whole.

Could The Voice have a short shelf life? It's very possible and the BBC will hope it will last as long as SCD has. We will have to keep our eye on it.

I'm not entirely sure. I think America is the exception in that its the only place where the drops have been this pronounced. There may have been some small drop off in other markets though but as I say nowhere near this scale.

I think Silent Witness is getting too complicated for it's own good as the first part seems to be going nowhere whilst the second picks up the pace. I think viewers are giving up after the first part. I saw a lot of negative reviews for the first three episodes of the new series either on Twitter or from friends. Maybe this accounts for some of the drop off moreover with Scott and Bailey on ITV.

I still find the shift from Monday and Tuesday to Sunday and Monday strange from the BBC. Was there a reason for this?

Knowing what it can get on BBC1 it would be interesting to know how it would perform on C4 or C5 - but on either channel it wouldn't be unrealistic to expect the headline figure to be around half of what it gets on the BBC, though in the 16-34 demo it would probably not be far off what BBC1 gets.

The Dales is hardly a BBC rip-off. It does well as it's pretty much classic regional ITV programming - just shown nationwide.

Clearly yet another case of an actor giving a flippant answer to a stupid question from a journalist and said journalist taking them seriously and turning it into a story. There is nothing in the one quote that article is based around to suggest a fourth series is in the pipe line.

Quite often there are exceptions in these movie deals for the bigger films, which are often sold separately.

Any official ratings yet for the 7th April to see whether The Voice did actually beat BGT or whether it was Downton Abbey all over again.

I see Gary Barlow is back on The X Factor this year: https://www.facebook.com/TheXFactor/...50666831628302

We'll do a quick summary:

- Yawn
- Bring back Simon
- The Voice is better
- Another year of not watching it
- Who cares?

Ouch.

Weren't the ratings high all through season one? Maybe the effect is due to the fact that it is season two and people now know what to expect Has the Voice run for two seasons in many other countries yet?

I was slightly surprised too. But it's in the May highlights for Channel 4 on C4 Sales so it must be true.

I know it did in Ireland. But that was from episode 1 onwards.
Atm I think The Voice is doing okay, and it won't be until the live shows when we find out if there is a problem or not.

Looking at the US show, I think the judges are poorly picked and generally the show embraces the 'gimmick' feel.
Its also on NBC.

More interesting about those ratings I just how LOW House has gone!

I don't think any of SW's ratings this series demonstrate 'a ratings monster that will crush everything in its path'. Its figures have been OK - but this isn't Call The Midwife we are talking about. SW is showing its age and the BBC's London in-house drama department lacks the knowledge and expertise in popular drama that it could and should have.

But I don't think ITV has anything to crow about. S&B has consistently demonstrated that it cannot hold a significant loyal audience - and losing so many viewers across the hour last night only backs that up. ITV will doubtless spin a 'victory' story out it - - but it won't stand up to much scrutiny.
Roscoe Barnes

So S&B beats SW - who saw that coming? And with a healthy +1 audence too taking it to 5.2m. Maybe the BBC will think twice about scheduling it against S&B in the future when S&B was already into its existing run, as its kinda back fired now. Ouch! The cross-over audience is very similar and both struggle to hit their potential. Corrie and Emmerdale both did well with Corrie at 9m+ for both eps, whilst EE continues to be in crisis...

According to The Sun's serialization of the Cowell biography, he has already decided to sign all four judges from last year again - I have no idea why as while the talent was lacking last, the judging panel was really poor for the live shows.

I'd be astonished if they bring Kelly Rowland back.
