So BGT actually WAS the most watched tv programme on Saturday. So much for Hodges spin. Must be desperation that I smell coming from the BBC bunker. They wont be used to being criticised.
Actually ITV spin even admitted defeat

You're reading Pj Millar spin. Don't be a sore loser George

The Voice won - at least on overnights. Get over it.
It didnt. Please remove the BBC1 viewing on time shift if you want to produce a figure for those watching live "only". Otherwise shut up!

Paul Millar - that 34.5% share for BGT is wrong, can you check again what share it had? The 34.5% would indicate almost 28m people were watching TV then, which obviously wasn't the case. Share must've been 38-40%.

Probably does not help Benidorm has been repeated so many times before.
ITV made a mistake there they could have put it on at 22.45 in steed.

Both are putting a spin on it to suit their own points of view. It will be interesting to see how the Voice performs. Its starting at 7.30pm to 9pm so its in a later timeslot and doesn't have much competition from the other channels

I think that article is all rather embarassing. Does DS know what Paul Millar is reporting?! I love how he says The Voice's drop of 800,000 is 'unprecedented'! Like no other programme has ever dropped 800,000. Bizarre reporting in the extreme!

why should the reverse be an issue - again you seem unable to grasp that the rules shouldnt be the same for a state tax funded broadcaster versus a 100% commercial broadcaster - not sure how to explain it any simpler for you.
Why shouldn't the BBC make a few shows that people want to watch is my point. And channels have been influencing each other for years. Is it great for TV? No, but it happens.

meaning? are you getting a bill for it? if not, this is just some irrelevant attempt at a joke?
I thought it was a good joke actually!

I'm free to comment or ignore what I choose and I do. The BBC folks are very thin skinned and cant cope without a little pat on the back every day it seems!
Yes you are but don't be surprised when people discuss your comments. You seem just as annoyed when ITV get a slating.

Well if you know something say it, if its true I'm sure you can stand over it. If it isnt then its proabably libellous. Either way make you mind up!
I know many things but not all can be made public. It's how TV works.

It is unprecedented - when has it dropped by 800k before now? Perhaps you need a dictionary.

It's only been running for a few weeks. It's a daft word to use.

God, we're going to be arguing about this all day aren't we?

I'd say the more shocking news was Smash only launching with a tiny 75k!

@digitalspytv Those figs are wrong - with or without ITV1+1, #TheVoiceUK was the highest rating show (9.9 v 9.3 or 9.7+1)

This is Paul Millar's spin. He's even more of an ITVista than you are...

The Voice won - at least on overnights. Get over it.
If you notice ITV used the same figures as well. This is what happens when BBC/ITV use one ratings provider for overnight data and Digital Spy use another.

I think he means unprecedented for that specific show, as until this point it had been increasing week on week.

Don't see what's embarrassing about it - DS always use tapechecked figures, which will have affected both shows last night as The Voice overran and BGT ended 5 mins early (I bet Hodges has taken TVUK's overrun into account), both of which should be taken into account. Meanwhile the +1 argument is open ended so they can include/exclude it however they please as there isn't a 'right' way of doing it.

Looks like The Voice and BGT rise together and fall together at the moment. More surprised about the latter last night, who you would think had more to gain from the elimination of the clash.

Great start for The Bridge on BBC4 - the Scandinavian drama has built such an incredible reputation there. Not only is it a cheaper alternative to US imports - it's often looking like a better rated one.

Dismal looking debut for Smash on Sky Atlantic. I know, I know, it's all about subscribers and I don't want to provoke another spat by comparing it to other channels - but still... What we can surely say is Sky will be disappointed that Smash is looking rather more like another Mad Men, than another Game of Thrones. Albeit, another Mad Men without the endless column inches and critical orgasms (which is arguably what they're after in the first place, so...)

BGT only had 5.7m during its first 5 minutes when TVUK was airing at the same time. At 8.35pm, its audience went up to 9.7m. Between 8.35-9.40pm it averaged 9.8m (exc +1).

GeorgeS theres a difference between being a fan boy, or making a discussion and being rude. As well you know.

Best to ignore +1 otherwise we'll have to get into the likes of iplayer

Either way as I said before they are good ratings, and neither show is against each other. Where is the problem?

The real story of the night is the launch of The Bridge on BBC Four. Great figures. But am sure people will have much more fun discussing +1 for the rest of the afternoon (again) - could someone just remember to mention iplayer for me? Its just I can't be arsed to mention a platform that gets better ratings than +1. I just can't be doing with it

PS: Smash is another awful rating for Sky Atlantic, I think the channel has not really worked. This isn't a criticism of buying that type of show, just there is room on Sky1 for it, and it'd likely do better.

Looking at its peak, it must have dropped off in the last half then

Not necessarily. It could have just remained fairly static throughout.

Am I thinking right the only two shows gave any grace to the channel have been Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire?

Digital Spy use Attentional for overnight data. TRP send an email with their overnight data to the TV channels.Yes George even ITV get that email. This is where the discrepancies come in.

Speaking of The Voice, in Australia, Nine has won their first official ratings week since September 2010!

Nine - 33.6%
Seven - 28.6%
Ten - 17.4%
ABC1 - 15.4%
SBS One - 5.1%

Nine also won the primary channel share with 27.4%, overtaking Seven's 21.5%.

The question now is, can Nine win for the second consecutive week?
