Mike Large is a really crap communications chief
Look at Sam Hodges, as we saw with DS there was no clear winner, but he managed to put his figures forward as the best.

Large just whinged and looked like the loser.

Also the idea they were cut back makes sense, when they made the decision they could have faced 40 mins of BGT, and that would be bad (and they'd look bad!)

Vera really should have done better than 4.3m, when you think how resilient BBC1's "older Sunday" fare has done against TXF, DOI etc - eg, Call the Midwife, Lark Rise, George Gently, Garrow's Law, Antiques Roadshow...

I wonder if the current SW 2-parter proves more viewer-friendly than last weeks?
That's a bit harsh on Vera. I think getting nearly 5m (including +1) against a 10m megahit is more or less to be expected in the Spring/Summer months.

This does make sense, as I noticed last night the first 3 or so "battles" were around 10 minutes each, which would have fit the 100 minute running time with 10 in each episode, but then they got shorter, with a few "battles" being cut down to less than 5 minutes.

Some of the contestants on Twitter were complaining how some of their battles/comments were edited out. I think a 100 minute show would have been far too long and 90 minutes was a much better idea.

I think the BBC were quite clever when it came down to this. In the US the ratings dipped on TV when it comes to the battle rounds... Mainly because it is dragged out over weeks before they even get to the live rounds. I think getting to the live rounds quicker by reducing the battle rounds prevents them from dipping too much. They'd rather lose 800k than 2 or 3 million.

Jake lyle, why do you always roll your eyes at other posters in every post you make? Its rude and patronising.
I agree it's incredibly rude and completely unnecessary.

I can't read it, but quite good, didn't realise Sherlock had broken iplayer records! They've been very quiet with this stuff of recent...

A quote from the article:

Saturday’s instalment of the singing competition clocked 764,000 requests to view on the BBC’s VoD service.

This topped the previous record held by an episode of Sherlock last year, which was watched 623,000 times in a single day.
Wow that's quite impressive.

Is that for a full play though. People could be watching 5 or 10 minutes of it, catching up with specific part they missed.

Brilliant Ratings for the Voice.

I'm suprised they werent in the 11mark bracket.

The Voice is a fantastic show. The BBC have a corker on their hands now along with Strictly.

Well the BBC now have a trilogy of hit reality tv shows. Strictly, The Apprentice and now The Voice. I think that is about as much reality tv the BBC can get away with on their main channel.

ITV doing some ratings PR for BGT,

1/4 Consolidated ratings now in. #BGT on Sat 14 April drew a massive 12.2m, increase of 20% on the overnight figure of 10.2m (inc+1&HD)
3/4 With 12.2m viewers, #BGT on Sat 14 April is 2nd most watched programme on any channel, so far this year (behind ep of @ITVCorrie).
https://twitter.com/#!/itvpresscentre

Also pleased to see 'Playhouse Presents' performing well for Sky Arts. The Thursday premiere showing had 220k viewers in the consolidated figures, which I think I am right in saying is by far and away the highest rated programme ever on the channel. Still not huge figures admittedly, but a very significant landmark for the channel.

Only 97k for Game Change on Atlantic - deserved a better slot, more promotion and more viewers!

People are obviously still watching BGT in very large numbers but The Voice is streets ahead of it in terms of buzz and is overshadowing it. Cowells volcanic sex life is overshadowing BGT too.
I think the UK team behind TV has made alot of good choices, the judges, the battle round format and had that bit of luck thats needed to make things gel.
Last night was a huge win for BBC1 sharewise and that should not be overlooked. The only negative thing is that recording the results just does not fit with "now" feeling of the show. I think they have misjudged that one.
Decent figures for the Countryfile, which had enough Ellie Harrison to offset the fact that it was shortened. Not sure about Silent Winess, goodish figure after a huge lead in-but how many will stick around tonight?

Here are the consolidated figures for the two most discussed shows in this thread at the moment -The Voice and BGT.
These figures exclude the ITV1+1 figures...

24/03/12
The Voice - 9.94m
BGT - 11.28m

31/03/12
The Voice - 9.93m
BGT - 11.54m

07/04/12
The Voice - 10.71m
* BGT - 10.3m

14/04/12
The Voice - 11.99m
BGT - 11.59m

So for the first 4 weeks, The Voice has grown, and eventually over-taken BGT in the officials.
BGT has stayed consistently above 11m (around 1m higher than 2011 at this stage).

*This figure excludes the HD figure as it has yet to be reported. This will add approx 1m to the figure on average.

Wow that's quite impressive.
For both shows there spectacular. Its just irritating BBC no longer puts out its press packs, am sure the total ratings for those episodes are/will be fantastic. The rest of them we just have to guess/make-up which is rubbish in here.

Does out 'finals' in a clear light as many use iplayer as a recording device and I don't count it as a repeat at all.

The Voice when everything is added up is probably a far bigger show than Strictly (which isn't a hit with iplayer).

1 THE VOICE UK (SAT 1859) 11.99
1 BRITAIN'S GOT TALENT (SAT 2004) 10.45
ITV1 HD 2 BRITAIN'S GOT TALENT (SAT 2004) 1140

enjoy!
So The Voice still winning on finals? (+1 you say, look at The Voice's iplayer figures and just be glad am just ignoring both and not using rational logic to point out it rates far better on iplayer than BGT will on +1!)

Interestingly isn't BGT out-averaging X Factor?

I do think they should have just had a 'small' finals show. Maybe a final analysis of the final night - go round all the contestants, then give the results.

Quiet and fair - would probably work better imo, and has that anti-XFactor edge.

But I do think it'll be like the Battle Rounds, all of TV has been recorded with an audience. It hasn't leaked into the wider public.

That shouldn't come as a surprise though surely? It is a much broader show than TXF.

TV definitely has the momentum publicity wise. As even though BGT and it are neck and neck... The press are favouring TV heavily. Seems like the Cowell doesn't have the midas touch that he once had with the press. And it hasn't been a good two years for the Cowell... Starting with Cheryl gate, than the underperformance of the US X Factor, the underperformance of the UK X Factor, Tulisa sex tape scandal, him breaking up again, his various affairs scattered throughout the press (might be putting off family viewers?) and even his publicist Max Clifford is tearing him a new one.

When you've played the press and teased them the way Simon Cowell has for years, to boost the ratings of his own shows, they are bound to get a little pissed eventually. Seems like now is the time.

In what way are Strictly and The Voice 'reality tv'? The Apprentice, yes, but the other two are talent shows. It always really bugs me when 'reality shows' and 'talent shows' are muddled up like this – they're not the same thing in the slightest!
