Unsurprislingly SW goes out on a whimper, and it is completely justified. I stuck with it for three weeks to see if it improved, and gave up at that point and it seems I was not alone. It was such a terrible series, nothing like the one before, it went off into the preposterous and ridiculous and totally lost any sense of what it was that made it good. I wonder did the writing team change or something? it felt like a totally different show.

I enjoyed the Wraith episode (the first story of the series) and I liked the episode last week set in the prison, but the other three stories of the series have been quite disappointing. Let's hope the next series sees a marked improvement. (I heard that there was going to be a new series filming soon?)

Silent Witness averaged 6.7m in the overnights last year, while this series it averaged 5.4m. In the officials, last series averaged 8.0m whilst this series is going to end up with an average of 6.5-6.9m, its lowest rated series since 2008 (6.3m).

That - plus the letters page in this week's Radio Times - should be sufficiently sobering reading for Ben Stephenson.

All he has to do is find someone who actually cares about popular drama to run the in-house series and serials department ...

It's actually in approx 28% - all the stats were posted a few weeks ago on here so won't waste time posting them all again.

If you gross up to get the equivalent ratings if the match was in all homes you get:

Match average = 4.1m / 0.28 = 14.6m

Peak = 4.4m / 0.28 = 15.7m.

Of course in practice it wouldn't have got anything like the above if it was in all homes because SS homes are more likely to be interested in it than the average home. But it gives a feel for the magnitude of the rating given how many homes it was in.

Now you may ask - if approx 7m homes (containing approx 15m people) have SS why does the biggest match of the season only get a peak of 4.4m?

In many homes only one person will be interested in sport. So 7m homes and 15m people probably equates to approx 9m "sports fans".

That means 50% of those 9m "sports fans" tuned in (at peak). Reasons:

1) On any particular day huge numbers of people are not stuck at home watching TV. It's not the only thing in their lives. People are out with friends and family / working / away on holiday / doing goodness knows what else.

2) Many people don't get SS for football. Of course it's the number 1 sport by miles but there will be many who get it for other sports and have no interest in football.

Should also be said that some people like watching big matches in pubs, or in a communal atmosphere, so may not be watching at home.

Make sure everyone possible is counted Derek, Would.nt want those four viewers not to be included in the reported figures.

I would have thought that was all very obvious though. Not everyone who has the channel, who wants to watch it will be able to tune-in, the same goes with every other thing on TV.

I would have thought that any guess at how it would have done on terrestrial would be similar (slightly less) to the Man Utd vs Chelsea Champions League Final in 2008, that averaged 10m officially for the whole coverage. Although, that included extra time and penalties.

The Voice US has 'nomentum', says TVJoe, falling to a Monday low of 3.5 yesterday. CBS beat NBC for the first time on Monday since The Voice launched, as Smash sunk to 1.8. Dancing with the Stars on ABC also down to series low 2.7.

Tvbythenumbers

NBC's up week last week was short lived as the return of CBS originals put it at #1 for the night .Two and a Half Men was the #1 show of the night in adults 18-49 with DWTS #1 in total viewers. Slight increases for both the 8pm hour comedies gave CBS a win in the first hour of primetime.

ABC didn't have much to cheer for either - DWTS was at a series low for a Monday broadcast although Castle's 2.4 was fairly good considering the lead-in.

NBC, much like ITV with last years X Factor, will probably just be looking forward to the end of The Voice this season and hoping Howard Stern can fuel America's Got Talent on to strong summer ratings (although it starts in mid May). The Voice is still doing great for NBC (especially with 3 hours a week) but its faltering is cause for concern and definitely a strong indicator that a 2 cycle schedule is not a good idea. Even if it falls further in the next couple of weeks, it has rescued NBC this season and maybe some tinkering will set it back on the right track.

CBS 8pm hour looking particularly good. FOX not looking great at all - I have a feeling House might go out with a whimper and relatively little lift for the series finale.

Is the New Tricks series new?, if it is moving New Tricks from Monday to Sunday night seems a big move from the BBC, what will it's competition be on ITV?

No, it's a repeat. There'll be 3 repeats of New Tricks in 8 days on BBC One (Thu 10th, Sun 13th, Thu 17th May).

So currently on Digiguide we have The Voice 6.45-8.15, BGT Final 7-9.30.

Can anyone confirm the format of the Voice live shows, after ep 2? I was thinking it's.

Ep1: 10 > 8
Ep2: 10 > 8
Ep3: 16 > 12? (all 4 teams, 1 lost from each team) or 8 > 4? (2 teams, 2 acts leave from each team)
Ep4: 12 > 8? or 8 > 4? (the other 2 teams)
Ep5: 8 > 4
Ep6: 4

Think we can be fairly sure about eps 5 and 6, but not sure about 3 and 4. Poss that Ep3 will be divided across the weekend with 8 acts each day??

The format is:

Live Show 1: 10 contestants [Team Tom (5) and Team Will (5)]
Live Show 2: 10 contestants [Team Jessie (5) and Team Danny (5)]
Live Show 3: 8 contestants [Team Tom (4) and Team Will (4)]
Live Show 4: 8 contestants [Team Jessie (4) and Team Danny (4)]
Live Show 5: 8 contestants [2 acts from all 4 teams]
Live Show 6 (final): 4 contestants [1 act from all 4 teams]

With the Saturday 12th May schedules, I expect The Voice UK to shorten by 15 minutes so it finishes at 8pm as it'll have one fewer contestant than the previous couple of episodes. Then, ITV will probably move BGT to 7.30-10pm so there's just a 30-minute clash. Alternatively they could go 7-9pm and 9-9.30pm, which would mean a bigger clash against TVUK for the performance episode but a higher rating for the results episode than an all-in-one 150min show.

Still working my way through the ratings, so haven't seen Monday's figure yet, but maybe Bottomgate has put a few people off Silent Witness, and this week's story was a very disappointing and confused mess, like a left over script from the dreadful Apparitions series.

Regarding the posts earlier about it being a mistake to axe Waking the Dead.

Were there not stories about two months ago suggesting that this was being revived for a Christmas special?

Cheers. So we lose 4 each in eps 3 and 4. Blimey. And the finalists will only of had 3 performances before the final. 20 seems too many for the lives.

How did Vera rate last year? At first glance that figure and share don't look wonderful, but it's quite a bit better than ratings faders Silent Witness and Scott/Bailey.
