Aw,Bless ya, since you ask, I like Vera and I quite like Brenda Blethyn's portrayal of Vera, apart from the accent. 'To silence critics?' All so serious, dontcha know. Yeah, that's it, I'm stalking the thread to silence critics. Are you the judge of relevant posts? Wow, congrats on your new status, really, well done there. |

I like the series and I like Vera though she can be annoying sometimes.More annoying is Holly.
What I didn't get was why did the father kill himself when there was a chance his daughter would recover. Or did he fear the outcome of the investigation having already helped her cover up one death. Also how come the daughter was not badly burned - she hardly had a mark on her. She was hit on the head with a petrol bomb. Seeing how easy it was for her friend to burn up it did not ring true. |

Some of last night's episode was filmed in my home town of North Shields. I quite like Vera for the locations.

I always wonder where they are, some of the time Newcastle, some parts of Northumbria I recognised in series one. Last night they mentioned Warkworth, although I didn't see any of it. I do actually think Brenda Blethyn plays a very good miseryguts, awkward Vera, just the accent getting lost here and there is not so good. |

Don’t worry, you don’t have to come back with bravado to cover your embarassment - Just contribute to the thread topic and everything will be copasetic. |

copasetic eh? How erm...satisfactory. No doubt you will respond with a witty oh so hurtful repartee, I will let you go for it,as other posters probably won't want to keep reading this. The floor is yours as is the last word. |

I watched this last night (had to record it and skip the blasted adverts) and I really enjoyed it.
Sometimes i get bored of the gruesome scenes on most cop shows now. Even Silent Witness, which I used to love is now so OTT its ridiculous. I feel that Vera is more gentle, like A Touch of Frost. Its just a good old fashioned show. |

Tonight's locations, that I can spot!
Seaham Hall is the spa - Fabulous - Have been in to see the facilities but haven't been able to afford the spa! Lord Byron was married there! The ice cream shop was Cresswell Ices, and the sea-side chalet is, I think, further north up the coast - A nice spot! The early scene, where they were driving over a bridge was either the old bridge at Berwick or, more likely, Corbridge. Perhaps more to come as the programme is still on - I do love the locations! And my surname is the same as Joe's, so I've a vested interest!

Craig's house and the flats are Whitley Bay, and the abandoned Thirties' lido/nature reserve is at Tynemouth...

No, that house on the bridge was bloody lovely, and I've no idea! Could be over to the west of the county, e.g. Corbridge?

There's a similarly lovely house on a lake up for rent at the moment nearish to me - It's through the National Trust, I saw a film location squad up there recently (perhaps for a new series of Vera?!) but it's not cheap! http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-...-31558786.html Mind you, they have reduced the rent since last I looked!

Good series, but she keeps slipping up with that accent. Her Southern one keeps making an appearance every now and again. Her colleague's accent is okay though.

Lovely, and as you say expensive. I'm in Worcestershire and the rental prices here are ridiculous - we had to pay £1200 per month for a very average 4 bed detached modern we rented for 6 months.

She's better than many I've heard but it is a really difficult accent to master. Her colleague was a local I believe.

I know, it's all relative - It was for rent at over two and a half thousand pounds at one point - Madness around here, really...
I know the accents do keep slipping. I guess I tolerate it. Even when you're from an area, I've found some peoples' accents can be very mannered and can seem affected... I've lived in Scotland as well as having been born and lived most of my life in the north and I've lived down south - My accent in my twenties and early thirties was all over the place, just as you adapt to be understood. |

David Leon was born in Newcastle, according to IMDB.
That was a dramatic episode! |

Yeah I've moved around a bit too and although my accent is now a bit more refined there is no doubt that I'm a Mackem born and bred.

Brenda is really letting herself down with the accent. I can tell its so fake and its stopping my enjoyment of the show
![]() Everyone else is managing fine although David Leon is from the North East anyway. |

I am not quite so irritated by her accent as I was last week - I am becoming more accepting I think! She's never going to master it and she often pitches her voice too high. Nevertheless, it's Sunday night and there's not much else on.
Anybody else notice the big green V's at the beginning and ad breaks announcing "Vera". They're supposed to be Aloe Vera leaves I think! Now, that IS some detective work pet.

Now, that IS some detective work pet.
Congrats to the Magpies - they've done brilliantly this season.
