A few years ago I battered half a Mars bar and dropped it into my deep fat fryer. As mentioned above it was a sweet gooey mess in a crispy batter coating.
It was actually quite nice really but I have no desire to repeat the experience.

Right! - in Scotland - where I live - you dont get these mars fricking deep fatted mess in every fish n chip shop! Its not even a tradition - its not even readily available! I think one wee chippy tried it (after elvis died lol) and got attention because of it! lol
Its available in Australia - cos on you tube either the onepotshefshow or robjnixon cooked it - and they are from Oz - so how did they know about it? Its ridiculous! lol Us scots dont eat it on a regular basis or even - we just dont eat it! lol - Its a myth and its a gimmick! lol |

I had one years ago when they were popular. I quite liked it, but it was quite sickly.
Our local fish and chip shop at the time did battered caramel eggs as well and they were really nice. I'm not sure if they still do them though. Oh, and this is/was in Devon. |

no but I put one in the microwave for a few seconds and I reckon it would be somewhere close, so you could try that?

how is that even the same thing?I like a battered sausage, but putting a sausage in the microwave doesn't produce anything like it. |

I've seen deep fried Mars Bars on the menu in English fish & chip shops. I've never been tempted though. There are several recipes for making your own on the internet.

When I was a kid there was an urban myth at school about 'mars bar parties'; did my peers in Scotland have a deep-fried version of said myth?

I'd actually quite like to try one, but I wouldn't want one that had been fried in the same oil as fish, sausages and spam fritters
![]() I remember seeing Nigella deep frying battered Bounty bars on one of her programmes and they did look really tasty

Not as bad as you think. Almost like a doughnut in taste. You wouldn't want more than a couple of bites though!

I had one a few years ago at my ex local chippy in Herts. Was delish, had it with ice cream, but the problem was the mars bar went really hard, will have it on its own next time.

They are not as well advertised as they used to be in my home town because of the school kids keeping buying it at lunch times the schools weren't happy so they complained and they "technically" stopped selling it but if you ask for it then they will make it for you and they are still available. I know other people who tried it in Glasgow a couple of years and loved it and they were visiting and it was on the menu of the chippy there. Also was in Blackpool last year and saw some of the fast food places on the prom selling it as well so there must be a market for it. Its not something I have tried as I'm not a huge fan of Mars Bars in general but I would probably have a go at a different one deep fried maybe like the Bounty mentioned before. |

There's a chippie near my work that does them, but I've never bought one, it sounds gross (not to mention full of fat). I've never seen anyone else order one in there either.
