I have a Panasonic hd ready 32" tv 50hz about 4.5 yrs old ( TX 32LMD70A )

I use at the moment to watch hd a Humax freesat box, on pictures that contain close patterns like stripes on some ones shirt, and some times on just vertical lines they are a bit fuzzy.

The picture however is quite good apart from this, next week I am getting Sky hd and I am also in the market for a 40/42" new set full hd and wish to avoid the above problem if possible.

Is it just down to the set being only 50hz or what, and can anyone suggest a set to look at, seeing I am using external equipment to supply hd it does not have to have a hd tuner or 3d.

I wish to keep the cost down but have a set that can reproduce a good picture in sd as well as hd.

Using a Full HD set with an HD source should certainly minimize these sorts of artefacts. Basically the higher the resolution, the easier it is to resolve closer lines, and the less likely you are to get interference patterns etc.

A Full HD set won't necessarily give you a better SD picture than an HD Ready set though, and some may give you a worse picture. It depends on the quality of the scaling going on.
You can never entirely escape this sort of thing with SD though. It's why TV presenters don't wear certain patterns on their clothing, to avoid strobing effects.

Best advice is to look at a lot of TVs in the shop, and make sure you see them running SD material.

Little to do with that, that would only have a noticeable impact on CRT sets.

The only thing I can think of that matches your description is PAL strobing (rainbow patterns appearing when people wear things like tweed jackets), but I'm doubting that affects you, being HD (therefore digital, not analogue) on a HD set.

Would you kindly post a picture of what you describe? And tell us how it's connected up?
