Death Of A Royal

I read once if a Royal like Elizabeth dies TV has to stop whats on. But is it all channels in the UK. Or just BBC,ITV,4, and sky.

If its all thats not right as we all do not like the Royals. I think it should only be BBC1,NEWS,ITV1,sky 1,NEWS others should just carry on.

But if they want to stop up to them, like of MTV,QVC,NICK,Disney,Bio,CBS go to sky NEWS Dave,Watch,Gold, go to BBC News,

I think most channels that don't have news would cut to sky NEWS if they had to stop whats on.

I was living in Dubai at the time and everything stopped there too.

In fact, I think the whole world bloody stopped when she died.

I don't think that was because Diana was royal necessarily (hadn't she been stripped of her HRH?) but because of her 'celebrity'.

I wouldn't have thought all channels would adjust their programmes when HMQ dies.

The large breaking news stories usually do interrupt regular programming - from celebrity deaths through terrorism and natural disasters.

You don't have to be in the country or a follower of a celebrity to want to be informed.

Now that so many people get their chosen digital TV input on demand and available in so many formats, I imagine it is less and less an issue.

There are several factors specific to the Queen, length of reign being the most noticeable, which will make the coverage more. That and the years of speculation coming to fruition will lead to the media launching into huge coverage, not just here but abroad. The next Monarch is likely to be different and such changes always bring out resident experts in force.

I think the coverage of the Princess of Wales was partly due to international presence, the way her family represented the changing Monarchy but also due to one of her sons being a very likely future Monarch.

I'm not sure the comprehensive coverage will be always quite so great yet the US coverage of the Cambridge's suggests interest there is as strong as it's been for a while. I suspect future events in Prince Harry's life may well be covered with similar intensity.

She's probably quite a long way from death anyway, if her mother is anything to go by.

They'd have to interrupt the normal schedule. It's not like there are any 24 hour news channels they could fill with such tripe.

I was only young when Diana died, I remember sitting with my little sister in front of the tv watching cartoon network and news flashes kept appearing at the bottom of the screen about what had happened.

I remember moaning about it and mum shouting at me. Didn't really understand how much of a big deal it was.

The main terrestrial channels and all news channels would likely have schedules cut to allow coverage of the news but most other channels would probably continue as normal but with programme interruptions if there were any major developments.

I don't think there's a blanket rule dictating that all TV has to stop what's on although I'm quite sure the BBC have it all planned out for their channels.

Glad I have a PVR then. I time shift everything so based on the state of my disks TV would have to stop broadcasting for a week before it affected me

I couldn't see channels like CNBC or Bloomberg stopping. What might happen in the case of CNBC is that they would just black out their UK feed (they have two feeds - one for the UK and one for mainland Europe) or just show US stuff and not have anyone reporting out of London. Only trouble is they have to carry on for the rest of Europe so that wouldn't work. Not so sure about Bloomberg though.

I'd cut off all electricity just to piss you all off.

Edit: if I was in charge, obviously, which I'm not. Phew!

It doesn't matter whether you like them or not, the death of the Queen will be one of the biggest news events for decades. Not because an old woman has died but because of the implications and subsequent events throughout the country and wider world.

The problem for TV channels is that if they don't cover the events they will be accused of disrespect by continuing with their usual programming. Does it really matter that much that you can watch your daily Deal or No Deal?

But no need for all channels to stop their usual programming is their, I say BBC 1,News,ITV 1,sky NEWS should be only ones to stop.

Let the rest carry on with their programming so viewers that do not like Royals can see something good.
