Me and my wife both failed the T-Mobile credit check for a sim only plan. We both have perfect credit histories. Just checked Equifax (Who they use) and there is not one problem on it. Just a few paid on time accounts etc.

Is there any reason why I would have been declined? I've never been declined for credit ever and my wife even had an account with them for 6 months last year and always paid on time via DD.

Any idea what I should do?

Did T-Mobile confirm the failed credit checks were a result of the information received from Equifax? Information from credit reference agencies are just one part of a complete credit scoring process.

Also, are you both on the electoral roll at your current address?

Yes we've both been on the electoral roll here for 15 years. They just said I didn't meat the required credit level.

It might be worth getting the checkmyfile free trial, they check all 3 agencies. Maybe there is another agency that has something bad listed.

Sometimes little credit history can be bad, but usually you only wouldn't get a mobile phone on contract if you had CCJs or multiple missed payments, or at least 1 payment missed for more than 2 months.

As Martin Lewis says often there is no such thing as a single credit score, whether you are accepted will depend on the company you want the contract with and their own scoring system.

I'll try that. I just find it crazy on a 30 day sim only contract. They could even have put no credit limit on the account. The most they would have lost out on is £25.

There is plenty of information you can put on a credit application form which they don't check and will boost your chances of being accepted..

But obviously, this could lead to prosecution so I'm not suggesting anyone try it.

I was rejected by Three for their 30 day SIM Only "One Plan" (£25 a month) initially.

Given that my existing O2 contract was for £60 a month, I was really surprised.

They told me to contact Experian, who were absolutely shocked that I'd been turned down for any sort of credit, let alone something so trivial as a SIM only plan.

It turned out to be a technical fault with Three's system, instantly declining all applicants back on Boxing Day last year.

Sim only's are easier to get than a full contract normally. And a lot of networks will allow an upgrade to full contract once a history of payments is established (normally after 6 months or so).

You could try other networks. I don't have the greatest credit history and yet have been given contracts on 3 and O2 so if there is nothing wrong with yours you should pass no problems

Yeah I already have one with Three. Not very happy with coverage thats why I was going to T-Mobile (Orange mast outside my house). Guess I'll have to stick with 3.

Let us know how you get on with checkmyfile OP, don't forget to cancel the trial if you just want to check once. It may help you work out what happened.
