Well straight back to earth with a bang. Work on a Monday for one of us girls, pity after such a fantastic weekend away with you all!!! Hope the rest of the posse got home safe and sound?
It's amazing what can be crammed into three days. I honestly didn't know where the time went, but time flies when you're enjoying yourself. I'd forgotten how lovely Derbyshire was. Well what did we think of DA? Nice to see Mrs Crawley and Cora's mother coming up with a few good lines to out do our Lady Grantham, but it was good to see everyone settling back into the old routine though. I think Matthew and Mary are going to be a good match for each other, I don't think either one is going to give in easily in an argument. Why did I feel uneasy about Bates last night? Wasn't it nice when Carson was stood with Lord Grantham watching Mary come down the stairs. I thought that was a lovely moment. Poor Branson really looked out of his depth didn't he. He looked like a spare part and I wonder what's going to develop with Thomas, O'Brien and her nephew now he's arrived. I wonder if he'll be a new suitor for Daisy? |

Hello everyone .... we had the MOST magical time in Derbyshire and Wizzy thank you so much for telling us where to visit ... you were spot on with your recommendations .... I should have read your writing a bit better regarding the cable car as I didn't know that the blessed thing stopped .... I was beyond scared and was sweating like a fat piglet ... Jesus .... I was all up for taking the car back down but got in one door, had a peak out the window and scrambled out the other door asap. We so enjoyed the caverns. The other day we had been to Eyim ... we discovered purely some chance some wonderful pubs and so reasonably priced. Matlock on Bath was something else .... totally chavvy but such good fun and we will PM some of you with a picture of a "machine" that will bring tears to your eyes. The b and b was fab ..... such wonderful breakfasts and they used local products ... divine. Chatsworth was outstanding ..... room after room after room of treasures, glorious artworks, male statues (all in their finest detail!!), and the gardens .. well all so immaculate. Seriously you could have spent a whole day but thirst aid beckoned. Yesterday we went to Crich .... and again found a delightful pub. Prior we had been to the Chatsworth Farm shop and had coffee there ... there we were sipping our elevenses looking out onto the Dales and with a lovely herd of cows to look at. A bit different from my local coffee shop where all you see is the number 113 bus. Oh I forgot .. one of the highlights for me ... the donkey sanctuary ... those poor creatures all so badly treated ... thank the Lord there are some lovely people who go over to Cyrpus and bring these docile creatures back. A big thank you to Chrissie for driving us there ..... Am afraid I can't even comment on what happened in Downton .... even though I did watch it all. We got a little carried away with our thirst aid and had giggling fits ..... we must have been quite rowdy as there was definitely a pinched expression on our host's face yesterday at breakfast .... when we left I shook his hand and apologised for the noise ... he looked at me and said something along the lines of "mmmm yes we did notice" .... So again thank you ladies for your company and Wizzy for your instructions ...... xx |

I think a full group excursion to Derbyshire next year is a must. Then we can visit Castleton where you can get on a boat in an underground river in an underground cave and see some stalacmites! The weather was kind to you all too. Did you like Eyam? And, what did you think of Crich? One great thing to do though is a shopping trip to Nottingham. The shopping centre is gargantuan! |

We loved Crich .... however we didn't realise that the Tram Village thing is somewhere you can spend the whole day .... we were on our way back home so wouldn't have had that much time ..... we idled away a good couple of hours in the local pub though ....
Eyam was fabulous although tinged with great sadness when you read about how many families were wiped out due to the plague .... the museum was shut so we missed that but fortunately the church was open so we could read up about it all. The mere mention of that cable car dangling makes my stomach lurch .... I was ok when it was moving but when it stopped I think my heart stopped with it. Chrissie and Patti were looking out the window and taking pics ... me I just looked ahead and uttered a few silent prayers .... and I used to be such a brave kid. I'm up for another visit to Derbyshire as am sure we only saw a fraction ..... |

![]() We did all your suggestions Wizzy (and every one of them was superb) apart from the lit up boats because although we arrived two hours in advance there was not a parking space available despite driving around and around. B and B was smashing - breakfast incredible and loads of bananas to help yourself to! ![]() After all my whinging and whining I was actually ok on the cable car providing I looked straight ahead and not sideways or downwards so I am well pleased! Mind you the walking down was another matter - never walked down such steep slopes and steps and never till that day have I ever had such aching knees! Derbyshire is just so incredibly stunning. You up for our Wales trip then Wizzy with T? |

Our totally incredible Derbyshire days out.
Well you've collectively said all that could be said - but I'll have a go at adding to it.
I couldn't have had 3 more entertaining and pleasant companions - it was a ball from the moment we arrived. Everything was perfick! Spot on B&B - perfect hosts, the best location and the most beautiful scenery and landscapes imaginable. Food at the B&B was easily the best that I've ever eaten, the other guests were amazed too, especially the lady who helped herself to extra bananas on her way out. We all giggled at that.Must add my thanks to Wizzy, you saved us hours of debate, we just worked our way through your list - it couldn't have worked out better, mind you all that sightseeing was incredibly thirsty work - good job the thirst spots were so abundant. We all adored Chatsworth, it's the most beautiful place on earth, huge - makes Highclere seem like a country cottage in comparison. We were lucky that they had just added the Sothebys Barry Flanagan sculpture exhibition of bronze animals to the garden. We never made Haddon hall but I think we were pretty well all country housed out . The plague village was a wonderful but evocative place and the church 's stained glass windows were very touching. We were too late to visit the museum, - it was closing time and the door was guarded by an extra mean looking German Shepherd. Donkey farm was adorable, especially good to see just how many actors and soap stars actually do sponsor and help to maintain this charity which is run exclusively by volunteers. We had a difficult time persuading Spud that her flat was just not spacious enough to keep a donkey in - even a very small one. Yes the cable car run up to the top of the lead mines was spectacular - Spud would have so enjoyed the view had she opened her eyes. Derbyshire has so much to offer, we touched only the tip of the iceberg. I too had forgotten just how much there was to see there. Yep - roll on the trip to North Wales in May - Snowdon here we come! The funniest prize has to go to Spud for spotting the most unbelievable vending machine in a family pub by the river in Matlock bath. Clue is - the item came complete with batteries. Childish I know but we were wetting ourselves at it. Yes we had Toppy moments!![]() Well I caught up with a bit of TV today, rewatched Downton - loved Maggie Smith's one liners - especially to the American woman - made me snigger. I KNEW it was she who sent the money to Ireland, she so loves to liven things up.Good to see the 2 son - in laws palling up though. I did wonder who was putting Daisy up to her little stand off, was it Thomas? They must have filmed the scenes at Highclere shortly after we left there. Much more tv to catch up on this week, Parade's End was very very enjoyable and getting better though I do think it would be tricky to follow without background knowledge. I am only halfway through the book. |

So glad you all had such a good time, its sounded lovely and I take it you were lucky with the weather as well.
I seem to remember you naughty lot getting told off at a previous B & B for being a tad noisy! I reckon word will soon spread around the network about this gaggle of mature ladies who appear so quiet and sensible when they arrive at a venue and then turn into a load of St Trinians girls and you will be banished from B & B`s throughout the land. ![]() Nelson has had his little op and despite being like a little dead thing when I brought him home yesterday has now fully recovered. He is, however, totally disgusted with the buster collar and is bashing into everything including my legs. I took him for a walk along the road and he looked like a headless dog, it was really weird. They also did a skin scrape as the vet thought he could have a type of mange but no mites showed up but they have given him some drops to see if we can clear it up. I can let him wander loose at the moment as he can`t sneak under the gates with the collar on. I was driving home from the stables earlier and I slowed for a tractor coming down the lane, when he got to me,he stopped and leapt out. Turned out it was the chap who was baling in the fields on the day I had lost Nelson and he wanted to know if I had found him. He was really pleased to find I had. I am just watching my first ever Green Wing with Mark Heap and its hilarious! My son always waxed lyrical about it and has the complete box set. When he came with me to a Lark Rise wrap party he was thrilled to meet his hero Mark although I`d never heard of him before. Shame they`re showing it so late though, perhaps I`d better borrow the box set.

Donkey
Yes .. I was sorely tempted to take one of those lovely creatures home .... I don't think "my treasure" would have been amused if she had walked into a four legged friend .... mind you it would have been better than the cows we saw .... talk about squeaky bums .... they definitely needed an abundance of kitchen roll and some wet wipes.
Yes I was most intrigued with my discovery in the ladies toilets ... never ever seen that in my whole life .... not even in the roughest parts of Las Vegas and there in the Peak District there it was in its glory ... and for a fiver you got the batteries thrown in .... no wonder there was a lot of comings and goings in the loos. Yes Cassum I am afraid we were naughty once again .... unfortunately this time we did not have Nicky popping into our room and crossing her arms ... giving us hints to pipe down. I can't possibly tell you what all the giggling was about on a public board .... the result was a very full rubbish bins of tinnies and wine bottles. There they were expecting 4 middle aged ladies (although Chrissie wasn't responsible for the last evening) which is what they got but 3 middle aged ladies who when they have had a few glasses collapse into fits of giggles like teenagers. I've now got to rewatch Downton as I can't even remember the titles coming on. |

Spud- Rainbow ....guilty tch - these convent girls. ![]() I think there may have been a serious attempt to stuff the donkey in the boot. Just been shopping in Waitrose - can't face Asda after the Chatsworth farm shop. I really enjoyed the last episode of the Bletchley Circle, - I was disappointed by the highly improbable ending though, hope they make it into a series it's compelling watching. Liking Mrs Biggs too, the delectable Sheridan Smith is getting her face into everything at the moment, she reminds me of Rachel Turner who played Raquel in Only fools and horses. Anyone watching "Leaving"? Deborah Findlay whom we know from Cranford is in it, she plays the young man's slightly disapproving Mama.

Mind you how cute were the sheep at Chatsworth all trudging along one behind the other! Well I seem to remember a third very happy and lubricated person on the last night! You missed a right laugh Schnuki though quite what we were laughing at I don't know! Quite how these three avid DA fans managed to not have a clue what happened in the hour and a half beats me! ![]() Heaven help Wales next May! |

I am sure no harm will come to me, and I can tell you, that if this is the same pub in Matlock Bath as the one I think it is (the one with the restaurant in the back patio leading out onto the riverside platform by the bridge), well the gents toilet had (and this is true) sanitary towels and condoms in the same dispenser! They're a liberal lot these folk from Derbyshire! |

And the funniest thing about that pub Wizzy is that they had the ********* and condoms in the ladies but no sanitary bits at all! Yet apparently you have to go into the gents for that............
The world has gone crazy! So you up for a little trip to Wales then! You won't regret it! |

Must say, I am really looking forward to The Paradise on Tuesday. It has Sarah Lancashire, Olivia Hallinan and Ruby Bentall in it, all from Lark Rise! It looks really good and the reviews have been excellent. |

Hi Wizzy - I think its May time but not too sure on exact dates .... Idlecat is a gem at finding us decent b and bs at reasonable prices... and I am sure she will come up with something as good as Tetbury and Matlock. She has a knack of knowing what is good ..... I do hope you can come with us ... Before then though we have to arrange our little pre-Christmas meet up .... Don't worry I don't do masses of walking (well none really) either and Rainbows End doesn't go over board either .. we were both knackered by the time we got down from the Heights of Abraham ... Schnuki and Idlecat were off like the clappers. |

Farmshops are so good any supermarket is put to shame by them. The taste of the meat alone is so much better, it melts in your mouth. I loved the Bletchley Circle and I said the same to my mum that it would be good as a series. I admit though I did think the ending was rather tame. I expected a bit more from that, but I love those sort of dramas and to do it in the 50's, well that's one of the era's I love.
