Haver read several Manuals but none suggest any difference in video quality between connecting the PC to the PC Socket or via HDMI..
I thought that there might have been..
Silly me..

Well, presuming you mean VGA when you say PC socket, then that is analogue and HDMI is digital.
But no, there's no great difference in video quality, presuming your TV can cope with the full resolution from both inputs (not always the case).

If you have an HDMI output on your PC then you can send the audio down that as well, so you only need the one lead, whereas VGA always requires a separate audio lead.

You might see differences if you are using a long cable though (over 5m).
Digital is more likely to faithfully reproduce the picture in that case.

It is not necessarily the case that there is much difference between the digital and analogue quality. On my TV you can only tell if you are very close to the screen and know what to look for. At normal distance there is no difference.

With analogue video the quality of the connecting cable and the analogue electronics matter so if you connected with a poor quality cable it may degrade the analogue video, but that's much less likely with a digital video signal.

HDMI does not always carry audio, you have to look at the manual/spec of the HDMI sockets concerned, PC or TV.

About the only way I can tell if I'm using VGA or HDMI on my telly is the VGA has a very slight offset to the right for some reason. So you get a couple of mm or so black line down the left. But apart from that the picture quality is virtually indistinguishable at a normal viewing distance.

In general there's no visible difference, and if there is EITHER might be slightly better. I've done tests on dozens of computers and different TV's - and only rarely ever seen any worthwhile differences. The main (and most worthwhile) difference is in resolutions - 'some' TV's will only accept a lower resolution via VGA (presumably just VGA specifications?) but will accept Full HD (1920x1080) via HDMI. If you've got the choice, try both - see which YOU find best.

Incidentally, the 24" monitor I'm typing this on is running 1920x1080 via VGA, and while both monitor and computer have HDMI I don't see any reason to bother wasting time changing the lead.
