Thanku Nigel for clearing that up. I did wonder why my tv kept telling me it was gonna switch off, most annoying and it does it while i'm gaming and now I know why. Thanks for that

It's an absolute pain!!.

Look for Eco settings, there should be on option to turn it off completely (default on a Sony is four hours).

Cheers Nige, I've not seen the actual message myself. It only happens in the evenings so far and not as often for whatever reason in the past week although ambient temp has been lower. Could well be a setting somewhere in the depths of the device.

It's normally based on no remote control activity (bit like a trains dead mans handle). Press a button on the remote with a big toe (or any other part of your anatomy ) to reset the timer. Rest assured if you drop dead your TV will eventually turn off No connection with overheating just an attempt to save energy.

It's not my tv as I have said before. It's 20 mins away and don't think my big toe would affect it from here. Thanks for your response , will have a closer look next time I am over there.
