If anyone is interested, there is going to be a series on Sri Lankan cookery on location with Sri Lankan chef Peter Kuruvita. It starts tomorrow on the Good Food channel and is called 'My Sri Lanka'.

Here is a three minute clip:

Somewhere in the series will be a pork curry recipe (though the original is made with wild boar). That is my favourite and I have had both versions.

Anyway, I hope it will inspire some of you!

Can't wait, really looking forward to it! I'm veggie but the chap in my corner shop & his wife are Sri Lankan - the smells that come from upstairs in the shop are wonderful. Raj is so happy to give tips via his wife on how to cook authentic veggie meals. If I see a strange bean or leaf etc in our Asian store ( which is about 5 miles away) then Raj and wife are always on hand!
Thanks to them I now drink a glass of liquidised bitter gourd in the mornings (tastes like grass) but has wonderful health properties, allegedly. Well, makes me feel 'healthy' & good.

I'm recording them all for myself and for my mum, she will most probably slag him off and say her pork/wild boar curry is better than his. Her cooking is legendary though.

You're good, I'd yak if I attempted to drink grass!

Your mate Raj and his wife are most prob Tamil and they gave their own particular dishes, hopefully in this series Peter will be able to go to the Tamil part of the country to show you some veggie dishes. Tamils are Hindu and mostly vegetarian people. They might not let him in though (political reasons).

You're exactly right they are Tamil, Raj's wife speaks little English but his is ok - he did try and explain his reasons/ politics behind his coming here about 13 yrs ago, I knew what he was getting at.
I hope we're able to have a peek into their cuisine thro' this programme too. Looking forward to tonight!

Btw, I'm assuming the gourds taste like grass - I've never eaten/drank 'grass' but this would be my guess at its taste!
