Coronation Street - Terry Duckworth/ Nigel Pivaro Appreciation Thread
Want to create a thread for the best Corrie character ever, producers finally had sense bringing Nigel back into it. If they had anymore sense, they would extend his contract long-term rather than have him in it for just a mere couple of months.
Lets honor this fantastic character and actor. |

I am glad PC decided to bring him back(only decent thing he's done IMO) glad to see he is staying around for a while at least, he might only be back couple of months but it will do for now.

Nigel Pivaro has said he has not given up hope that his character Terry Duckworth may turn over a new leaf. http://www.salfordstar.com/article.asp?id=1350 SALFORD STAR NIGEL PIVARO BACK IN CORONATION STREET |

He was looking great tonight. Loved his scene in the pub with Rita "Going to hit me with your handbag".

I think he is awesome and would love him to stay.
But I am not sure if Nigel Pivaro enjoys the fame. I remember reading about 10 years ago, that when he did the Corrie convention in Canada he was really rude and didn't like talking to the fans. Maybe my memory is confusing me, but there were other comments that he didn't like the attention, which is understandable as there are some pretty strange "fans" out there But nonetheless, I am enjoying it while it lasts. I would have loved to see Terry in his pomp, but I only started watching in 1998, so have only seen a few cameo appearances |

I love how he says Tyrone's name as Tirone. Its hilarious. Does he do this on purpose or can he not pronounce Tyrone's name?

Is Terry bad, or just plain evil? He's what I’d call an ordinary decent criminal. He doesn't go through life wanting to be bad, he is bad because of circumstance. He became this chancer in order to survive but there are certain lines he wouldn't cross. Has he changed since we saw him last? He's different in some ways, but he's still Terry. How does he explain away the fact to Tommy that he ‘sold’ him to his maternal grandparents when he was little? He uses his wideboy persuasiveness! And he's got quite a willing recipient in Tommy. Tommy’s desperately curious about his dad, and Tina [Tommy’s girlfriend, who recently lost her own father] encourages Tommy to give Terry a chance. Of course, Terry has his own explanation about why he asked the Hortons to bring Tommy up. My rationale, when I was playing Terry selling his child 20 years ago, was, 'I don't want this child to grow up with Jack and Vera, look what a mess they made of me. Why should he grow up in a back street in Weatherfield when he could grow up in suburban Blackpool?’. Six years ago you decided to put your acting career on the back-burner and retrain as a journalist. Was that a tough decision to make? Not really. The tough decision was deciding to go to university 12 years ago. I was a good 10 or 15 years older than the kids in the Honours class. It wasn't so bad when I did my Masters. I’m a news-obsessive and I thought journalism would be a good way of utilising my academic achievement. Acting or journalism — which do you prefer? They’re both fulfilling in their own way. To be able to entertain people is great in itself but what I love about journalism is that you find the story, you research it, you ask the questions, you get the answers and then you put the story together. The whole process is your own. That's what I love about journalism. |

Only two months
![]() http://menmedia.co.uk/manchestereven...rry-duckworth- Terry’s got a certain charm. He also has his lighter moments and it’s important to capitalise on those. “If he was dark and heavy all the time it would be too much. He also has his own logic and rationale. “It sounds pretty horrendous selling his son when he was a few months old, but you don’t play it like that. “My rationale for Terry was, ‘I don’t want this child growing up with Jack and Vera. Look what a mess they made of me. I don’t want him growing up on a back street in Weatherfield when he could be growing up in suburban Blackpool with middle-class guardians’.” Nigel laughs when he recalls how viewers give him both negative and positive comments about Terry’s exploits, but admits that his soap role has allowed him to get a foot in the door – literally – in his life as a journalist. “Soap acting was tailor-made for what I was doing because it opens doors and gets people talking to you. It’s heaven-sent really. I adore journalism, but it’s nice to be able to do more than one thing.” But Nigel says he’ll return to journalism once his two-month stint on Coronation Street has finished. |
