I came across a vid clip which I had saved on my PC a while back. I believe the format there is mp4. However when I tried to download the same clip directly from You Tube onto my iPad a banner appeared across the (You Tube) screen saying that permission had not been granted to show it on mobiles (including the iPads?)

Just wondering if I emailled this vid clip from one email addy to another then opened the 2nd addy on the iPad would it play, or would the absence of Flash on the iPad be the main stumbling block?

Have you tried searching for the video in the iPads YouTube app?

If it's .mp4, then the lack of Flash is irrelevant.

You could try the YouTube mobile site - its a lot better than the app: http://m.youtube.com

However, if it is the case that the video is not yet allowed on mobile devices, then it presumably won't be there either.

Try adding the video to your iTunes library and syncing it with your iPad to play via the Videos app... .mp4 is an iTunes-friendly format.

For any iTunes-unfriendly videos you come across (e.g. xvid, avi, mkv), I recommend AVPlayerHD.

I don't think you can. Franglais was trying to view a video using the YouTube app.

Thank you everybody for your helpful replies. Rottweiler: I have just noticed at the bottom of the iPad screen when you download (allowable) vids from You Tube, there's "Favorites" there which enables you to keep what you want to, er, keep!
