What's happened to Christina Aguilera's voice?
Performance from The Voice:
http://www.justjared.com/2012/04/17/...-on-the-voice/ She sounds so out of breath and her vocals sound so forced, its just not pleasant to listen to, it's so screechy, her team were much easier on the ears. What's happened to those golden rich tones of her youth? |

She sounds like she's singing through her nose.

I think its just the song "Fighter" she has always sounded slightly strained whenever she has performed it live, even going back to 2003-2006, theres little difference.
However, go and have a look at some of her other recent performances, i personally thought her voice sounded at its best recently (see grammy 2011, etta james' funeral, disneyland 2011 christmas performance) it seems to have got richer and her lower tones sound much better, her voice isnt as thin as it used to be. |

Her 'Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas' performance 5 months ago was one of her best vocal performances in terms of technique. And every time she coaches her team on 'The Voice' her voice sounds clearer and more balanced than it ever has. |

Btw, her vocal performance wasn't that bad! It was nothing special compared to how amazing she can be, but it was by no means the trainwreck that I thought it would be reading the description
Rather forgettable than bad And granted that she had to give her entire team their space to shine and she also had a choir (why?), she obviously wouldn't focus on being flawless herself. When she performs solo, then we'll see how she's progressed as a vocalist ![]() Aside from her vocals, though, you CANNOT fault her looks. This is the best she's looked since 2007! And the joke with Blake was so cute (he always complains when there are male dancers on stage and he calls them strippers), glad to see some of her sense of humour too

It sounds like her voice has significantly deepened but she's trying to sing her older songs in their original (or too high a) key? Plus, it's very throaty.
It's a shame, because she still has a great voice underneath it all, very rich and soulful, but it only shines when she sings within her range and slows it down...which is seemingly something she doesn't want to restrict herself to. As a fan, I'd rather she focus on her current vocal strengths rather than trying to replicate the acrobatics that she used to slay. Saying that though, you could tell she was holding back in this performance. She didn't go off like she usually does. Plus, like the others have said, she seems to have a bit of difficulty with Fighter live. |

It happens to most, if not all "diva" singers around that age. They hit 30 and suddenly...eh, their vocals just plummet. I doubt it's anything to do with damaging their voice by overusing it, I think it's just nature taking its course.

You never know how her voice evolves after the training. |

I went to Christina in concert back in 2004 and she always shouts a bit in some songs and Fighter has always been one of them so I wouldn't slate her over this. I don't think she has ever performed this song any different.

I think Christina sounds perfectly fine in that song, which is more than I can say for some of those singing it with her! A couple of them sounded awful, imo! Fighter is a very shouty song anyway, though. Christina still has a great voice, imo. Her performance of You Lost Me on American Idol was sublime:

I thought vocals got better with age? For example Debbie Harry, if you compare her 70's performances to her late 80's & early 90's performances, her voice sounds a LOT stronger. The same with Melanie C, I saw her live last month and her vocals sounded a lot more powerful than in her spice days. It could be different for certain people but, that's what I always thought

I think it depends what kind of voice you have and how you use it. Plus a bit of luck.
People like Mariah, Whitney and Christina are going to have put their voices through a lot more over the years than someone who has a much smaller voice. Others may improve vocally over time because they just need time to mature and practice/training. Christina has been belting her face off for 10-15 years, and she's never had the best technique, so that has taken it's toll on her voice. She's probably only managed to last this long because she's staggered her album releases. Had she been touring, recording, performing etc. more frequently then deterioration would probably have been more rapid. She still has 'it' though. A big voice like that just needs a bit of taming. |

I wonder if Christina will see success pre Bionic style with this new release?
So strange how her career bombed at the same time Lady Gaga appeared. The strangest thing is they are nothing alike so I never got the comparisons at all and I don't know why Christina got a backlash over asking if Gaga was a man or a woman. No one had heard of Lady Gaga at that point so I think its only natural for Christina to assume it was a drag act when asked about it without prior warning or knowledge. I don't think she meant any ill feeling. |

She once said in an interview that she was performing in small concerts in her home town since the age of 5, so more like 25 years of belting

'Burlesque' had no official single releases, but it's sold more than 1 million ww, so it's safe to say the buzz is there, all she has to do is capitalize on it ![]() Quote:

That whole interview was blown out of proportions. She could have been a little more subtle, but she's always been outspoken, so that whole thing was just a good excuse for people to slag her off. Hasn't GaGa herself said that her popularity grew thanks to the media's reaction to Christina's statement and VMA's performance?

I don't think she meant any ill feeling. "Lady Gaga" could easily be perceived as a drag name. Even if Christina was being shady, it's perfectly feasible she had no idea who Gaga was then. Big thanks to Perez for that ordeal. Quote:

![]() Big voices like that don't often survive intact and unaffected by age. |
