Surround sound question

Hi,
Having bought a set of very nice headphones to block out the sound of my noisy neighbour's surround sound I have found I can still hear the boom and crash through our dividing wall.
I am therefore going to fight fire with fire and am looking for a decent surround sound system myself.

I have a 32 inch LG HD LCD TV and a PS3 and I'd like to have surround sound through both.
Currently my headphones are setup via an optical to digital convertor going into my optical audio out socket on the back of the TV.

Searching the web I have found this system - it looks great and it says I wont need an amp with it.

Am I being naieve in thinking I'll just need to hook it up to the optical out on my TV (or into the analogue convertor)and bob's your uncle?

The HT-X22 is basically a full Surround Sound amp built into a subwoofer. It is an extremely capable system far better than most all in one devices of similar money. Although it starts out as a 2.1 system it can be easily upgraded to 5.1.

If all you want is to listen to the telly then yes all you need do is connect the optical out of the TV to the Onkyo. You can also hook up the PS3 to the Onkyo as well. However you will need the Onkyo remote to operate the amp section. At it's most basic level you'll need it to change the volume! But most if not all Onkyo remotes are multi-function so you may only need that anyway. With my Onkyo system I use the Onkyo remote to control the TV and the amp.
