Has this ever happened to any other TV show

The ITV drama Boon starring the late Micheal Elphick finished in 1991

But one episode didn't go out until 1995

Has there ever been any other time where episodes of a TV show have gone unbroadcast until years later

The episode of Buzzcocks with Russell Brand was broadcast eventually. I don't think there are any more hidden.

One 1992 episode of Bottom saw the central characters camping on Wimbledon Common, but because there was a high profile murder there shortly before transmission, the episode was cancelled and not shown until 1995.

I'm sure I must have seen it. I usually watch it. I guess it wasn't that memorable.

Simpsons episode "The Cartridge Family" (Homer buys a gun) was not shown by SKY for many years.

Broadcast in the UK only after BBC got terrestrial rights and showed it first.

I dont think it was really. I seem to remember Dermot O' Leary hosted and Brand was guest team captain.

Anyway, back on topic...trying to think...

One episode of the original Star Trek was shelved [ at least by the BBC ] due to its content.

There is an episode of Family Guy called Partial Terms of Endearment. It is about abortion. It should have aired on Fox in 2010. But Fox got nervous about the content and pulled it. So far it hasn't aired in the States. But it was shown over here on BBC Three. And it has been screened in the US at various special events.

Bottom as mentioned by another poster. The series two finale 's out aired 3 years after the previous five episodes of that series due to a murder on the Wimbledon Common and for sensitivity the episode was delayed. Two episodes of Fawlty Towers aired later than expected (several months) because of strike disputes at the BBC.

I believe the Star Trek episode mentioned above was something to do with Ireland and portrayed the IRA winning the ''war'' which might explain the BBC's reluctance.I don't know whether it was ever available on DVD.

I seem to recall an ITV series about a warship which was pulled after a couple of episodes (because it was so bad) so other episodes exist but have never been shown.

Heil Honey I'm Home on the old BSB. They made three episodes but only one was ever shown - perhaps because it was a ''comedy'' about a Jewish couple living next door to Hitler.

Yes, Breaking Waves, and wasn't there a second series of Distant Shore(s) that's never been aired in the UK, but was shown abroad. Ditto some ITV military drama with Jeremy Sheffield and Zoe Lucker.

There was a Waking the Dead episode which had been shown originally but has never been repeated on TV iirc. It was the episode entitled Fugue States.

The Star Trek episode was actually an episode from The Next Generation called "The High Ground". Data, the android, when talking about major wars and conflicts states that the IRA successfully achieved a united Ireland in 2024 after a long bombing campaign. The episode has never been shown on terrestrial TV in the UK or in Ireland for that matter. Sky have broadcast it but they removed that scene. The episode was broadcast in full at an arts festival in Belfast in 2007.

I'm pretty sure it has been shown on terrestrial TV by now; it was several years ago and there was a bit of a mention about it in the press.

When the original Star Trek was shown on the BBC in the late 60s, the episode 'Miri' received complaints and was excluded from the various runs of repeats that were broadcast throughout the 70s. Because of the complaints, the BBC vetted further episodes and three more were effectively 'banned' and never shown.

It wasn't until the early 90s that a complete run of the original Star Trek series was shown by the BBC, including the four 'problem' episodes. This run was also uncut, as previously we had only seen edited versions (due to time constraints as well as censorship). Some episodes had entire scenes cut out for no apparent reason.

What's the background to the BOON episode?

I immediately thought of Frankie Howerd's series "Then Churchill Said To Me", which had its transmission delayed by 15yrs: it was a wartime comedy and was due to be transmitted around the time of the Falklands conflict, so was shelved.

Can,t quite remember the storyline but I do vividly remember seeing it being promoted

I mistakenly though ITV had commissioned a brand new series

I was rather excited though

Boon was and always will be one of my favourite ITV dramas of all time

Frankie Howerd starred in "Then Churchill Said to Me". It was set in Churchill's wartime bunker and was due to be broadcast in 1982. The BBC cancelled its showing because of the outbreak of the Falkland's War. I believe it got its first terrestrial airing in 2000.

The series was rubbish.
