I have the PVR9200 with the latest software and it generally performs well. I have the IPL cricket set up as a series linked acurate recording and the recoding list has always been correct.

I usually put the PVR in standby when we are not in. On at least 3 occasions I have switched the PVR on (from standby) and it has started up as if it is recording something. When I have changed the channel to 24 (ITV4) the cricket has already started and it is not being recorded. Then, within 10 seconds, the PVR starts recording.

Today it should have started recording at 15:00. I switched the box out of standby at 15:43 and that is the start time of the recording.

It feels like it is missing the signal that shows the programme is starting.

Has anyone had any similar experience and is there a solution?

One possible explanation is that the Humax is receiving from more than one transmitter. Do you have any channels above 800?

No, there are no channels in the 800s. I have to do a manual tune because I started getting some of the higher channels from Emsley Moor after they had their DSO.

That's strange because the symptom you describe is usually due to receiving from more than one transmitter. Did you delete all old channels before your Manual Search? Have you followed my Manual Search instructions?

I don't usually delete all of the channels because I then lose all of the recording schedules.

I will take it through the complete process and then see what happens tomorrow and Friday.

So there is a chance you do have channels from more than one transmitter, there's your problem.

Just a quick update. This morning I erased all scheduled recordings, all channels and then carried out a manual retune.

The PVR, in standby mode, has correctly started recording the IPL that started at 3pm.

So it would seem that the problem was related to an incorrectly tuned channel or receiving a channel from another transmitter.

Good news.

You don't need to delete the recording schedule as a separate operation, it gets deleted when you delete all the channels, much to the annoyance of most owners.

Update - The problem remains. Yesterday the IPL coverage started at 3pm. The previous recording finished at 12:35pm and the box was in standby. I came in at approx 4:40pm switched the box out of standby and was watching something for 5 mins or so. I changed channel to 24 and the IPL was not recording. Within 10 secs it realised that it was a lazy, bad box and started recording.

I am going to do some more tests to see whether short recordings made before the IPL starts will ensure that the EPG is current. I will also test to see if the box is left on full whether it has the same problem.

I have had some late night (early morning) films fail to record and in all cases that I can remember there was a gap of at least an hour when the box was not recording and was in standby.

Check you are doing the Manual Search correctly, here are my instructions.

This still smacks of the box being mistuned. What transmitter are you tuning to? Switch to the channel you were watching when you came in, press Menu>System>Signal detection and tell us what channel number is reported. Select channel 24 and repeat the procedure and again tell us the channel number.

Back again - In response to Big Les, I have followed your instructions to do the manual retune.

I ran my first test today. I set up a recording on the schedule to start at 14:05 to 14:40 on E4 (28) to see whether this would cause a refresh of the EPG so that the IPL on ITV4 (24) would start at 15:00. The early programme recorded ok but the IPL didn't start recording.

The box was tuned to ITV1 (3) and this is on Ch21 from Bilsdale Moor (75% Strength, 100% Quality) and was in standby.

I switched the box out of standby at 15:57. It came on straightaway as if recording. It was still on ITV1 and I waited for approx 1 min. I checked the recording schedule and it showed the IPL set to record from 15:00 to 19:30 but not recording. I changed channel to BBC1 and waited there for approx 1 min. BBC1 is on Bilsdale channel 34 at 73% strength and 100% quality.

When I changed channel to ITV4, I counted to 9 before it came up and said it was recording. ITV4 is on Bilsdale channel 42 at 61% strength and 100% quality.

Tomorrow I have set up to record a programme that starts just before the IPL and finishes just after. Maybe this will trigger it to start recording.

OK - Second Test today.

IPL on ITV4 (24) due to start at 15:00. I scheduled a single episode of Scrubs to record on E4+1 (29) bilsdale ch27. It was due to start at 14:50 and end at 15:15.

When I switched the box out of standby at 15:35 I find that the IPL started recording at 14:59.

According to the recorded program list Scrubs started at 14:51 and finished at 14:59. There are no interruption symbols next to it.

Nothing else was recording over this period. I had "This Morning" on ITV1 recording from 10:30 to 12:31 (weekday schedule) and "Jane Doe" recording from 15:20 to 17:00 on Channel 5.

I played Scrubs and it has a length of 24:56 and it plays correctly.

I don't seem to be much further along. In fact I seem to have made a small problem into a larger and more complex problem.

I wonder if the box is picking up 2 signals to start recording followed by 1 or 2 signals to stop recording.

I have to say everything looks right with the tuning from what you have posted. For completeness could you tune to a channel from each of the multiplexes and tell us what transmitter channel it is using eg BBC1, ITV1, ITV3, BBC Four, Pick TV and Yesterday.

BBC1 - Ch34 - 73% Strength - 100% Quality
ITV1 - Ch21 - 75% Strength - 100% Quality
ITV3 - Ch31 - 78% Strength - 90% Quality ???
BBC Four - Ch24 - 73% Strength - 100% Quality
Pick TV - Ch27 - 75% Strength - 100% Quality
Yesterday - Ch42 - 61% Strength - 100% Quality

Noticing that Ch31 has a lower quality I checked QVC and that had the same strength and quality figures.

Picture quality on ITV3 and QVC seem fine.
