Recording one channel whilst watching another

I cannot believe this is so segregated in terms of technology.
Whilst a TV with twin digital tuners and a harddrive to record to seemed to exist a few years back by all the major manufacturers, none seem to make them now.

It seems you are forced to buy a seperate DVR with digital TV tuner to permit recording of one channel whilst watching another.

If it isn't possible to obtain such a TV, is there a small USB device that will provide the second tuner signal to a digital tv, AND record onto flash, whilst watching different show.

That way I could move it room to room as and when I needed to record something.

Thanks

"seemed to" might be the apposite point here - I don;t remember many such set and certainly not from ALL the majors

Assuming you could get one of those TVs, you wouldn't be moving it from to room to room to record, so why need to move usb stick to record ?

If you really need to move it around some of the DVR boxes aren't that big - only one more connection reqd than a USB stick i.e the PSU - would still need to plug usb stick in and aerial into the stick

My Fetch PVR is only 7"x7"x2" and is 2 tuner, HD too, plus I can remote request it to make a future recording direct from the iPhone

The modern way is to have your receiving / recording equipment all in one location and just distribute the playback signal to wherever in the house you want it.

I don't remember any TV with twin digital tuners and recording to USB.

I would say the Humax Fox T2 is probably one of the best devices going at the moment with twin HD freeview tuners and 500GB HDD and you can copy recording to USB or network if you want to. It can also playback media from network or USB and access online services such as iplayer and youtube.

That should be Humax HDR FOX T2, the HD FOX T2 can also record if you add an external usb HDD but only has a single tuner. Which might actually suit the OP , as you can view a channel on the same mux as you are recording.

EG record any Freeview-HD channel and view any other HD channel.

Presumably you're talking about ethernet or wirelessly linked TV's e.g. I record a show on a PVR in my back room on the TV, and then distribute it over a network to my front room TV when I want to play it back?

If so, problem is my front room digital TV has no ethernet port, and certainly no wirless capabilities.

Surely I need a smart TV to do this?

Or a networked media player.
