I think what neither team considered was a new market. You don't need to appeal to the existing gym bunnies, they are already there. Think of something like Zumba that has drawn a lot of people into fitness who weren't there previously. Ricky's workout was really only for those who are in shape already, to push them further, much more narrow field than your average Joe, who will only go if something really appeals to them. I think it looking high level already would be intimidating to a lot of people.
I also don't think the Beat Battle name worked particularly well. I can't imagine people saying they are heading down to the gym for a Beat Battle session.
I'd have pushed for something aimed at seniors possibly, or your middle-age on up crowd.
