Sony RDR-HXD710 digital switchover tuning problem
I have an RDR-HXD710 HDD/DVD digital recorder. Since the analogue switchoff occured on the Crystal Palace transmitter I have lost all channels though it has a Freeview tuner.
There seems to be a tuning fault because auto tuning or easy set up fails to find any of the channels. The firmware update option is switched on and is up to date as far as I can tell. My brother has an identical model which is working fine but when I've tried tuning my machine at his home, it says that there is no signal even though the aerial connection is fine. Can anyone help? |

I have an RDR-HXD870 and I made a silly mistake. I'm not familiar with the RDR-HXD710 but if it's anything like my Sony model then you might have done the same thing as me....or rather not done.
I forgot that my unit has 2 aerial ports, one for analogue and one for digital! I bought my Sony so far before digital switchover I forgot all about it as I rarely need to look at the cabling at the back and assumed both tuners used the same port.So the answer you might be looking for is to unplug your aerial lead from where it is currently on the unit and plug it in elsewhere. Hope this helps

Thanks for the suggestion CheekyAngus, my machine only has one tuner (no analogue tuner) so only one set on aerial in/out jacks. But I did check my connections as you suggested and they're fine.

My only suggestion is you visit your brother's machine, take yours with you and compare all the settings in the menus and software versions, etc. Using his aerial and cable will rule a few things out too e.g. location relevant to the transmitter.
I could end up being a coincidental fault that happened to time with your switchover retuning. |

Losing Channels in Standby: To resolve reset the unit to factory settings as follows. Turn on the unit (with no DVD disc inside), Hold STOP [ ] on the front panel, then press the POWER button on the panel. The unit will power down as normal, but will factory reset when next turned on. Do let us know if that works.
