Help TV - Plasma or LED?

I won £500 in Argos Vouchers and have decided to buy a new TV

We want a 40' TV for the PS3 and general watching

I don't know if we should go for Plasma or LED? What would you recommend. I know Plasma's are cheaper but i heard LED'S are better.

Firstly....LED is an LCD with LED's as the light source.
I use LEDLCD for general viewing and gaming with very good results.

Plasma is the choice with most videophiles and industry users. It still offers the best all-round picture. Still have the best motion response and resolution, best with 3D (less crosstalk and ghosting due to nature of tech), deepest black levels, most natural picture, best picture £ for £, full viewing angles.

LED's are only good if you...

watch in a bright, sunny room
watch straight on (viewing angle wash out still happens)
pay a premium to reduce the chances of clouding and back light bleed.
Play A LOT of gaming and static (HUD) type stuff.

Oh dear....I'll get rid of my LCD's then...................Not..
I don't know why people come on here for advice sometimes as people post about things they read rather than something they actually experience....
My advice would be to ignore the partisan advice you get on here and go and see TV's in friends or relatives houses, or find a good independent AV supplier who will give a good demo. That would be the only good way to make any decision if you have no experience of either technology.

Because most people do not get to view all the years lineup of hdtv's set up correctly in a perfectly calibrated environment for objective assessment. Thus you have to rely on experts, and not just your unreliable anecdotal experience. Seeing something at a "friends house" is a sample size of essentially nothing. Very few people have 10 "friends" each having one of the top 10 tv's of the this year in their homes for you to test.

Anyways its lcd, not led. Even the cheapest netbook or mobile phone has had an led lighting its cheapie lcd for the longest time now. A junk lcd with an led light behind it is still..junk.

You have no way of knowing who is an 'expert' on these forums though. I've seen some shocking advice dished out on here by people who consider themselves experts.
Then you have to try and discount those who are one eyed when it comes to any technology.
By all means read the debate, but never, ever take it all as gospel.

One can cite sources. I would never go on the opinion of a forum user not backed up by sources, or one who's opinion is in conflict with every other source out there. But yes, there are some on here that are pretty obstinate in their willingness to misinform.

Plasma and LCD-LED both have their pro's and cons. Iv'e never understood the bickering that goes on about which is best, Plasma or LCD. I chose LCD-LED as I game quite a lot but I did look at Plasma first as I hadn't owned one before but it just wasn't for me.
