I'm going to have to get an mp3 player since talksport have become a 24hours sports only station.

My station of choice wil be LBC, but as I can't pick it up on dab I will be downloading their podcasts instead.

On their site they suggest downloading podcasts from itunes. I was thinking of getting an ipod classsic, so I thought that will suit me fine.

But then it occurred to me that I might not be able to download other podcasts/material from other sites which cannot be accessed through the itunes store.

Would this be the case or can I download anything on the ipod from anywhere without any restrictions from Apple ?

You should be able to download MP3 podcasts from anywhere. You could then copy them across to the iPod Classic using the iTunes software on your computer.

If you want to be able to download them directly to an iPod, you'll need the iPod touch as it has wifi. The iPod Classic can only sync via a cable.

The vast majority of podcasts I've found are in iTunes though!

Hope this helps!

Podcasts are MP3 files. Download to the pc and then copy them to the iPod via the USB cable. That's what I used to with my iPod Touch (4th gen)

You can download them directly from the LBC Audio Again site. There are some bite size demo podcasts you can try. Those are just normal mp3 files which you can download direct with your web browser. http://lbc.audioagain.com/ However once you subscribe (I pay £12 every 6 months), it is much easier to get them via iTunes as they just update and sync automatically.

There is a wide selection of other podcasts available for free via iTunes.

It looks like the ipod then. It seems that itunes will let me access pretty much anything.

Thanks for all your replies.

For LBC, just use yourmuze.fm from your PC or smartphone.

For better sound than the iPod I'd got for/start with the £20 Sansa Clip + with memory expansion. (ebay - white ones certainly left after selling 705 in one listing so far)
As long as there is no DRM it will play things fine.

Bizarrely the Clip + has the only earphones I've ever been able to wear all day in comfort. I probably have better ones but my ears need their comfort.
