Love it Really hope they tour. Saw them 3 times in the 80's and their concerts were right up there with the best. Met them after one of them and got autographs, also caught one of their drums sticks that I got Chris cross to sign with a cross!!!!! Hymn is one of the BEST tracks I have ever witnessed live. So anthemic. Would LOVE to see that one live again.

im always dubious about old bands reforming... not sure whether its a good thing, sure they are better then most chart acts, but to me they are retro and to be belong in the early 80's, id hate that legacy to be spoiled by poor quality new material..

Wonderful, at last some decent new music, saw Midge perform a couple of times in the last few years when he did a couple of free gigs locally, all acoustic and his voice sounded as good then as it did in the 80s, you cant hold that kind of talent down for long, I hope this is the start of a revival of one of the best genres ever.

i dont, because 'revivals' are never as good as the original imho, id hate those great memories of that period to be raided and ruined, which i expect is what would happen.

id be happy to be proven wrong!

Even a watered down version of synth pop would be agreeable these days, music is at such an all time low IMO that this HAS to be a good thing

I know we will never caprture that wonderful time, but if we can give kids a taster of how good music was back then , they might just realise what pap there is around at the moment .

I was a huge fan of Ultavox, in both the Foxx and Ure-era incarnations.

Not sure about a re-formed Ultravox but I'll reserve judgement until I hear the album.

Yes! They are doing a UK tour in Sep/Oct, 12 or 13 dates followed by some in Europe but details have not yet been announced.

I saw them in 2010 and will definitely be going again. It was magic. Only marred by looking around at everyone else and realising I too look as old as that. We were all so beautiful back in the day

would it?... i agree musical creativity is at an all time low, but a watered down version of original material , even if its superior to todays chart music, would i fear detract from the original...

im against old men coming back and staging revivals... because in their (our) day it didnt happen... what made any era from the past so good (or at least respected and creative) was that it was the youth of the day that was expressing themselves (ourselves).

if ultravox and others spearheaded a 'early 80's synth' revival it would be a tacky commercial karaokification of a once great movement.

if the current music scene is to forge its own identity then it MUST come from the youth of the day, not a bunch of old guys (no matter how good they are). that identity is ours...

Expectations among the official forum would certainly indicate the anticipation is quite high!

Only to do their 30th anniversary tour - there was no intention of reforming permanently and definitely no plans for new music. This has all been a surprise but a very welcome one.

(well, I say surprise, it's been known about for over a year but taken a while to come to fruition)

Looks like it might be Sept/Oct time

http://www.ultravox.org.uk/

I was in Vienna a few years ago and walking across the front of the Hofburg palace late on a clear, cold December evening, I could only think of one track - and how much I hate Joe Dolce!

And John Lennon .... or rather his killer? Initially Vienna was kept off the no 1 spot by Lennon's "Woman". Because of his murder, John Lennon songs took the top spot for several weeks, including the week in which Vienna would naturally have reached no 1. People forget that - they only remember the Joe Dolce record. Vienna did outsell both of them though.

Loved it... until the vocals kicked in. They improve for the chorus when they are layered and some effects are included, but the dry verses just sound absolutely horrible to me.

On Pure Radio they featured Ultravox's new single on Future Playlist the other day.

My fave Ultravox song from the 80s was The Thin Wall, followed by Love's Great Adventure.
