Whoever wins will fail anyway
At the end of the day whoever wins is doomed to failure anyway. The public has their 2/3 months of fun with them and then throws them away like a used nappy. Look at the history of these competitions, hearsay- dead, libertyx- on the brink, gareth gates, dead, michelle mcfattus- dead, darius-where did he go? Girls aloud- terrible, one true voice - gone after a month, snedden- dead, alex whatever her name is- dead. The only half success is will young and I would bet my last pound that he will be gone in a year or so.
Whoever wins will have a stigma attatched to them that the public will not forget. So at the end of the day I think making the top 3 is the goal, get your exposure then get out as quick as you can. |

The winner will have a number 1. Even Michelle achieved that much. Every chance that one of the runners up will as well.

But you're honest!!!
Will Young only lasted cos he was the first, that's why whoever wins this competition needs to be original, and I don't mean Tabby cos he isn't. |

Doesn't Darius have a new single out either right now or in the next couple of weeks?
In any event, Darius, Gareth Gates and LibertyX did not actually win their shows so do not fit in with the title of this thread. |

These competitions are no guarantee of long-term success...but then no artists have such a guarantee whatever their route to the top. There are plenty of one-hit wonders who didn't take the reality TV competition route. At least all these guys are having a lot of exposure on national TV for quite a few weeks which hopefully gives them some sort of a base for future careers.

Didn't Lemar win a Brit for best urban act this year?

Surely the "Band Aid" 2 single going to be #1 for Christmas?
Wonder how that will affect the success of the winner? (Hopefully it will be a bit like Will Young and they'll leave it for a while before releasing the first single). The ones I feel most sorry for were "One True Voice", because there was some definite talent there which Pete W just threw away. He should stick with playing with trains IMO. (And when interviewed recently said that's what he'd often rather be doing. Draw of that what you will...) |

Yeah I agree about OTV as well, I never rated Girls Aloud at all (and still don't) but OTV could actually sing!!!
Goes to prove that Louis can market people successfully sometimes I suppose. |

Alex Parks isn't dead either....Her singles weren't runaway succeses but her album distributed well....She's currently working with the best talent in the industry, which may or may not produce a popular sound...Even if she isn;t a mainstream hit she may find a niche for her music.....
I suppose the need to vanish for so long alá Lemar is the need to remove the stench of Reality TV..that's one theory anyway... |
